Peru Mineral Specimens

Peru offers collectors many specimens, both rare and common, often at very
reasonable prices.
OKF-218 Pyrite Huanzala, Peru. Ex Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.
Although specimens from this location are common, beautiful floater groupings
such as this are not. There are no contact marks and only a couple small dings
on the superb specimen. The piece measures 8.7 x 4.7 x 3 .6 cm. The cubes are
highly striated with a few showing minor modifications by octahedrons and
dodecahedrons. A top display cluster which would add flash to any collection.
$195
OKF-164 Manganocalcite on Quartz Pachapaqui, Peru. Ex. Nancy Collins
collection. A small cabinet specimen seen in the photo measures 6.5 x 5 x 4.3
cm light pink manganocalcites formed domes on top of lustrus quartz. A fine
display piece of good luster and form. Zero damage. $85
OKF-040 Fluorite and Pyrite Huanzala, Peru. This
specimen is one of the nicest fluorites I’ve seen from Peru. It is a big
floater piece comprised of a single fluorite octahedron with highly modified,
etched and hoppered surfaces. It measures 5 cm on edge and is a light sea
foam
green color. The fluorite id fluorescent and exceptional for the locality. One
small patch of purple. The Pyrites are in clusters in pits in the fluorite and
are modified by dodecahedral forms. 6.6 x 6.2 x 6 cm. An outstanding and
unusual fluorite specimen. 450$
OKD-519 Pyrite Huanzala, Peru. Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.
Good octahedrons of pyrite with minor cubic modifications form this low luster
grouping. 5.2 x 5.2 x 2.8 cm thick. More peripheral damage that I’d like to
see. 25$
OKD-509 Pyrite Huanzala, Peru. Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.
Several big, high luster octahedrons of pyrite which are intergrown and sit up
high on the all pyrite matrix. What makes this piece special is quite
obvious…the modifications to these octahedrons are very unusual. I thought I
was fairly decent at knowing my crystallography but this one has me baffled. No
damage to the main crystals but there is peripheral contact from other
crystals. 6.5 x 6 x 3 cm with crystals to a cm. Interesting surface features
on a few faces. Very unusual and interesting. 265$
OKD-505 Rhodochrosite on Sphalerite Mamuelita Mine, Morochcha District,
Yauli Prov., Junin Dept., Peru. Ex Nancy Collins Collection. This specimen is
a large (13 x 7 cm ) plate of small rhodo crystals which create a druze on
massive sphalerite. No damage but there is some broken material along lower
edge as a result of the material’s extraction. This is clearly visible in the
photo and could easily be trimmed off. A good piece at an easy to handle
price. 90$
OKD-395 Barite Miraflores Quarry, Liata, Hualianca District, Hunaco Dept.,
Peru. A beautiful cluster of gemmy golden yellow tabular barites to 4 cm on
edge. These barite sit up high on a well trimmed section of matrix which is
coated by tiny dolomites and an unknown metallic mineral. One barite on back of
the specimen is cleaved. This is a highly aesthetic piece with quite large
crystals for the location. 225$
OKD-328 Hubnerite in Quartz Pasto Buerno, Peru. Ex. Nancy Collins
Collection. Big (6.5 cm long by 1.6 cm wide) hubnerite inbedded between tow
clear “Arkansas” like quartz crystals. Tiny pyrites dot the surface of the
hubnerite. Crude termination on the hubnerite and quartz tips are a bit roughed
up along one edge but difficult to detect. Highest luster possible for this
type of specimen. 6.5 x 3.5 x 2 cm overall. Attractive display. 285$
OKD-055 Pyrite, Quartz, Sphalerite Peru. An
attractive show of cubic crystals and quartz. One large crystal of sphalerite
and some secondary pyrite overgrowths on one side of cluster. Pyrites have nice
striations and some hillock growths. 5.5 x 4 x 3.5 cm overall. Very showy
specimen for the low price of 40$
OKD-069 Enargite, Pyrite, Tetrahedrite Quiruvilica,
Peru. 7.5 x 5 x 4.5 cm dome of crystals dominated by well formed, silver
colored enargite crystals. Some lustrous pyrites in pyritohedral form.
Tetrahedrites are only partials and are minor. 125$
OKD-053 Tetrahedrite, Sphalerite, Galena, Quartz
Casapalca, Peru. Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection. Here is a large plate
of outstanding crystals of exceptional size for the location. The piece
measures 12 x 11 cm and is up to 5 cm thick. The sides are mineralized on much
of the piece and there is no damage. The sphalerites are largest reaching over
4 cm each. They are nicely translucent, yellowish and complex in form. The
tetrahedrites are exceptional in luster and reach 2 cm each. Their form is
clean and attractive. The galena are also very complex and not as lustrous as
the other minerals. All crystals are evenly dispersed on the matrix. A real
winner. 580$
OKA-698 Barite/ Galena/ Pyrite Huanzala, Peru. Great damage free combination
pieces with very high aesthetic value. White/clear barites to 2 cm with mostly
bright and some dull galenas (sometimes hopper crystals). Pyrites are high
luster but usually on the backside of the piece. Great buys on such attractive
mineral specimens.
OKA-698B 7 x 6 cm piece. 32$
OKA-761 Maganocalcite Pachapaqui Mine, Ancash Dept., Peru. 4 x 4 x 4 cm
branching group of crystals to 2.5 cm each. Nice light pink color and attractive
form. 30$
OKB-242 Arsenopyrite/ Quartz/ Tetrahedrite/ Hubnerite?
Casapalca, Lima Dept., Peru. Impressive mix of minerals on
this big piece. Some obvious damage exist but the price is adjusted for
this. Most crystals are 1 to 3 cm each. The elongated black crystal
may or may not be hubnerite. They were labeled as such but I would expect
some translucence and red. Neither can be seen in these crystals. 13
x 11 cm plate. 45$
OKB-245 Fluorite on Quartz and Pyrite Huanzala, Peru.
These specimens of fluorite are octahedrons with highly developed cubic
overgrowths.. The end result almost completely masks the original octahedron.
Interesting and showy. Light green color. This one has a small 1.5
cm fluorite. 15$
OKB-247 Fluorite on Quartz and Pyrite Huanzala, Peru.
These specimens of fluorite are octahedrons with highly developed cubic
overgrowths.. The end result almost completely masks the original octahedron.
Interesting and showy. Light white color. Centrally placed 2.5 cm
crystal. 22$
OKB-248 Fluorite on Quartz and Pyrite Huanzala, Peru.
This specimens of fluorite is composed of cubes modified by dodecahedrons.
Light purple crystals on pyrite and white feldspar balls. 10$
OKB-226 Tetrahedrite/ Quartz/ Pyrite/ Dolomite
Peru. Clear quartz crystals to 4 cm are coated with other crystals
to 1.4 cm each. Great mix. 5 x 5 x 4 cm. 18$
OKB-204 Hubnerite on Quartz Casapalca, Lima,
Peru. Well formed, deep red translucent crystals to over a cm
each sit up in a cluster on quartz crystals. 6 x 5.5 cm piece. Do
not let the low price fool you. Great specimen...28$
OKB-205
