Skeletal Herkimer Diamond Mineral Specimens
All of the skeletal crystals listed here are from the diggings at Treasure Mountain in Little Falls, New York. Skeletal crystals are an unusual form that is rare in Herkimer diamond quartz. At the Little Falls location they are probably encountered more often than any of the other sites in the region. They are sometimes marketed as "Elestial" quartz in the metaphysical trade. Skeletal crystals have crystal faces which have an extremely uneven growth pattern. They are difficult to describe and photograph. Here is a close-up to give you an idea of what the differential growth on the faces looks like.
In a way, they almost look shattered. Every shard that composes the face
is actually fully terminated along its length. Individual faces have
dozens of surfaces that sink inward. The crystal appears as if it has been hollowed out. This form of crystal growth
is common in quartz from other regions, such as Brazil.

OKB-094 Herkimer Diamond Skeletal Treasure Mt. Little Falls, NY. This is one of the nicest non-smoky crystals I've seen collected at Treasure Mt. 6.5 x 5.5 cm main crystal which has a 4 cm rider on one side. This is a true floater piece with no sign of any matrix attachments. The specimen displays great. It is typical in its inclusions and moderately skeletal. 95$
