Closed during the mid 1800s, all east coast specialists are well aware of the importance of this historic location.  Good contemporary specimens are unknown so when you come across a nice Rossie specimen you have something special.  Know best for its complex calcite twins and galenas the mines also boast a number of other species that were preserved during the lead mining operations.  Don't forget to check out this NEW Discovery of Graphite from Rossie.

OKO-873     Galena and Pyrite     Cole Hill Vein, Rossie Lead Mine, Rossie, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Ex. Chuck Bowman collection.  This is a very crude, cuboctahedral crystal group collected by Chuck in contemporary times from the Cole Hill tailing piles (now entirely mined out for mineral specimens).  Mine closed in the 1800s.  This one measures 2.2 x 1.9 x 1.4 cm overall.  Nice luster and no damage.  It is a floater.  $40

OKO-876     Diopside/ Quartz pseudomorph after Wollastonite    Rose Road Wollastonite Occurrence, Pitcairn, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Michael Walter, 2006.  This example measures 2.5 x 2 x 1.3 cm and is dominated by a single terminated crystal of a limp green color.  No damage and good luster for a pseudomorph.  $45

OKA-964     Calcite/ Pyrite      Rossie, NY. Parallel growth cluster of schalenohedrons up to 7.5 cm each. This group measures 10 x 7 x 7 cm and is composed of translucent , milky crystals with good luster and some shiny pyrite coatings. Obvious damage.   80$
