New Jersey Mineral Specimens For Sale

Stilbite on Quartz                                                  Chabazite, Calcite, Quartz

The minerals of New Jersey often represent some of the finest specimens found in classic East Coast collections.  The trap rock quarry zeolites and related minerals are especially popular with collectors.  With most of these classic locations being closed to collecting we find that the majority of specimens we get from New Jersey are from collections we acquire.

OKN-765     Chabazite, Calcite, Quartz     Paterson, New Jersey.  Ex. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.  An attractive, three-dimentional piece with well formed, lustrous crystals of all the species.  One small quartz crystal missing otherwise in excellent condition.  6 x 4.2 x 3.8 cm.  A nice example of this popular material.  $30

SPECIMEN CATALOGE # 2 out of approximately 45,000 specimens in his collection!!!  I believe #1 is a prehnite from this location that he has retained for memory's sake.    Yes, the second specimen in this now famous collection.  It was acquired from Dottie Herman in 1961.  It is a fine, damage free example of this material with a 3.5 cm bowtie of amber colored stilbite sitting upright on a bed of white quartz casts after laumontite.  Classic material common in that day.  3.7 x 2.7 x 2 cm overall.  Very nice and very cool provenance.   $100

OKK-664     Willemite    Buckwheat Mine, Franklin, Sussex County, New Jersey.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  Prev. John Caswell collection.  This fine historic piece measures 1.7 x 1.4 x .8 cm and is a single crystal.  The crystal is somewhat crude in form but it is complete, damage free, and very desirable for the species, location, and for the historic significance.  Bright green fluorescence and pink area (calcite) has bright red fluorescence.  $120

OKJ-558    Malachite on Chalcocite     Houhaille Quarry, Bound Brook, Somerset County, New Jersey.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  Here is a rare thing!  2.4 x 1.6 x 1 cm overall.  Forest green malachite coating well formed chalcocite.  Edge contacts but overall in nice condition.  I have not seen one of these from this location before so I must assume that it is an uncommon find for this prolific natrolite locality.  This is probably way under priced but I am trying to be conservative given my lack of knowledge regarding this species from this locale.  $190

OKJ-515    Prehnite     Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  Two translucent balls of crystals measuring 3.5 x 2 x 1.8 cm overall.  Very small amount of matrix on back.  Nice views from all sides.  Mounted in a perky box.  No damage.  $85

View of gap where there was once another crystal.

OKF-310    Calcite and Heulandite    Paterson, Passaic Co., New Jersey.  Ex Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection this fine doubly terminated calcite measures 7 cm in length and is very gemmy.  It's backside has a slight encrustation of heulandite crystals and other tiny calcites.  There is a gap in the calcite where there was once contact with some unknown crystal.  This contact area has been regrown and it is as lustrous as the best primary faces.  Damage free.  $50

OKF-363    Chabazite with Laumontite, Calcite and Prehnite   Patterson, New Jersey.  Ex. Jim Turek Collection.  This interesting plate of crystals measures 9.5 x 9 x 4.7 cm in size and is composed of an attractive assemblage of pastel colored minerals.  The chabazite crystals dominate the piece and are exceptional.  They measure to 1 cm on edge, and along with the other minerals, are on white/ clear calcites.  Minor green prehnite and small white sprays of laumontite at even more character.  A fine display piece which sits on edge for display.  $120

Calcite and quartz cast

OKF-026    Calcite on Quartz Casts after Anhydrite    Prospect Park Quarry, Prospect Park, New Jersey.  Ex. Hobart Jones Collection.  10 x 5 cm plate of casts of quartz up to 3 cm each.  On these is a yellow rhomb of calcite that is 2 cm on edge.  Again, the photo makes the specimen look somewhat duller than it is.  No damage and exceptional aesthetics.  Another East Coast Classic!  950$

OKD-828    Calcite on Strontianite    River Quarry, New Jersey.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  Steve Chamberlain collector.  Here is a fine, very light yellow, transparent calcite on a bed of tiny clear calcites and acicular, white strontianite crystals.  The big calcite appears to be a penetration twin.  Note the unusual twin plain down the center of the crystal.  The two halves are almost parallel in form so Iím not quite sure what to make of it.  The crystal has a nice luster and the specimenís aesthetics are very nice.  5 x 3 x 3.4 overall with the large calcite measuring 2.5 cm.  A fine displayable specimen from an unusual location.  95$

OKC-052   Apophyllite    Millington Quarry, Millington, New Jersey.  This partial pocket is entirely coated by well formed apophyllite crystals to 1.3 cm each on edge.  They are very gemmy and clear to very light yellow in color.  11 x 7.5 cm.  No damage.  48$

OKC-055   Apophyllite on Calcite    Millington Quarry, Millington, New Jersey.  Here is a fine light yellow calcite (3 cm on edge) with large clear, gemmy  apophyllites to 2 cm each.  Only moderate in luster but still very attractive with its overgrowths.  7.5 x 6 x 5 cm.  A couple of tiny and tough to notice contacts.   70$

OKC-056   Apophyllite    Millington Quarry, Millington, New Jersey.  Huge apophyllites in a tiny pocket.  Crystals to almost 4 cm each but they only have a low to moderate luster.  7 x 6.5 x 5 cm.  Some contact on one edge.  25$
