New Jersey Mineral Specimens

OKF-310

View of gap where there was once another crystal.

OKF-310    Calcite and Heulandite    Paterson, Passaic Co., New Jersey.  Ex Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection this fine doubly terminated calcite measures 7 cm in length and is very gemmy.  It's backside has a slight encrustation of heulandite crystals and other tiny calcites.  There is a gap in the calcite where there was once contact with some unknown crystal.  This contact area has been regrown and it is as lustrous as the best primary faces.  Damage free.  $50

OKF-363

OKF-363    Chabazite with Laumontite, Calcite and Prehnite   Patterson, New Jersey.  Ex. Jim Turek Collection.  This interesting plate of crystals measures 9.5 x 9 x 4.7 cm in size and is composed of an attractive assemblage of pastel colored minerals.  The chabazite crystals dominate the piece and are exceptional.  They measure to 1 cm on edge, and along with the other minerals, are on white/ clear calcites.  Minor green prehnite and small white sprays of laumontite at even more character.  A fine display piece which sits on edge for display.  $120

OKF-138    Quartz Casts after Anhydrite.  Ex. Hobart Jones Collection.  An absolutely superb small cabinet specimen which measures 7 x 4 x 4 cm.  Numerous complete casts which are damage free extend up high off the matrix.  A highly desirable and aesthetic New Jersey specimen.  This piece displays well from all sides showing some edge contact on all sides.  A killer specimen.  $250

Calcite and quartz cast

OKF-026    Calcite on Quartz Casts after Anhydrite    Prospect Park Quarry, Prospect Park, New Jersey.  Ex. Hobart Jones Collection.  10 x 5 cm plate of casts of quartz up to 3 cm each.  On these is a yellow rhomb of calcite that is 2 cm on edge.  Again, the photo makes the specimen look somewhat duller than it is.  No damage and exceptional aesthetics.  Another East Coast Classic!  950$

OKE-414

OKE-414    Calcite on Prehnite    Prospect Park, New Jersey.  Ex. Jim Turek Collection.  I don’t tend to carry much NJ material in that it is uncommon to find great material at a decent price…here is an exception.  Gemmy prehnite of good color with clear to white calcites in two generations.  An aesthetic display which stands up nicely two different ways for displays.  7.8 x 6 x 4.1 cm.  95$

OKD-828

OKD-828    Calcite on Strontianite    River Quarry, New Jersey.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  Steve Chamberlain collector.  Here is a fine, very light yellow, transparent calcite on a bed of tiny clear calcites and acicular, white strontianite crystals.  The big calcite appears to be a penetration twin.  Note the unusual twin plain down the center of the crystal.  The two halves are almost parallel in form so I’m not quite sure what to make of it.  The crystal has a nice luster and the specimen’s aesthetics are very nice.  5 x 3 x 3.4 overal with the large calcite measuring 2.5 cm.  A fine displayable specimen from an unusual location.  95$
