Wintergreen Mine, Mineral Specimens, New York

                                                                                                     Groutite in Calcite

The groutite specimens from the Wintergreen mine (also known as the 2 1/2 mine) in Talcville, St. Lawrence County have importance in the mineral world.  They represent what may be the finest acicular groutites know.  In good examples they are rare, and they are basically unknown in today's mineral market.  They only tend to turn up sporadically in old collections.  The collecting site remains posted and off limits to collectors.
