Pennsylvania Mineral Specimens For Sale, Page 2

                           Pyrite                                                                  Pyromorphite

Amazing specimen have come from Pennsylvania for at least two centuries.  Classic mines like French Creek have made Chester county, arguably, one of the finest counties in the United States for mineral specimen production.  Although, contemporary finds have become uncommon, Pennsylvania will remain and American East Coast producer of classic specimens.

OKJ-706

OKJ-706    Quartz     Hazelton, Pennsylvania.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  A nice plate of clear crystals to 1.7 cm each.  There are two tiny crystals missing that are quite difficult to notice.  Sawn flat base.  Great locality piece.  $40

OKH-766

OKH-766    Brucite    Stoltzfus Quarry, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, PA.  Ex. Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  A rare find to have well formed crystals of brucite….the plate of crystals measures 3.4 x 2.6 and is approx. 2 cm thick.  There are two larger crystals to 1.2 cm each that rise perpendicular to the matrix and have coatings of secondary growth crystals on their surfaces. One crystal has a little chipping across one crystal edge that is visible with magnification but otherwise in very nice condition for such a soft mineral.  Translucent, cream white color and simply a great example for crystal form.  Mounted in a perky box, very displayable for the species.  $60

Base

OKI-447    Pyrite    Cornwall Iron Mine, Cornwall, Lebanon Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection #88.  Collected (purchased?) by Steve when he was a kid (and I was a year old).  A fine, lustrous crystal with minor basal attachments and interesting form.  Odd surface growth features.  2 x 1.6 x 1.1 cm.  Old collection # on base so I think Steve must have silver picked this one. Another old classic east coast locality.   38$

OKI-440

OKI-440     Goethite pseudomorphs after Pyrite    Fields east of Fruitville Pike, 1 mile north of Lancaster, PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  A fine red and gray pseudo floater with no damage.  It measures 2.8 x 2 x 1.7 cm overall and is composed of two intergrown crystals.  Nice.  Unusual location.  25$

Back

OKI-449     Pyrite     French Creek Mines, St. Peter, Chester County, PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  Circ. 1976.  A showy example composed of what I would describe as a single complex crystal measuring 2.5 x 2.4 x 2 cm.  The specimen shows distorted form which gives the piece a saddle shaped appearance of a dolomite crystal.  This is not an uncommon habit for this local but quite unusual for pyrites, in general.  There is only a minor area of attachment to magnetite on the lower section of the backside, so the specimen shows wonderfully when viewed from almost any direction.  Very fine, no pyrite disease issues with good specimens like this from this classic east coast locality.  Zero damage.  175$

OKI-454

OKI-454     Pyrite on Sphalerite   French Creek Mines, St. Peter, Chester County, PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  Circ. 1979.  A showy example composed of what I would describe as a plate of crystals measuring 3.4 x 2.8  x 1.5 cm.  The specimen shows wonderfully when viewed from any direction.  Minor attachment of a light green mineral which is possibly fluorite.  The crystals show a distorted form which gives them a saddle shaped appearance like that of a dolomite crystal.  Very fine, no pyrite disease issues with good specimens like this from this classic east coast locality.  No damage.  50$

OKI-498

OKI-498      Apophyllite    Cornwall Iron Mines, Cornwall, Lebanon Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  This 3.4 x 3 x 2 cm cluster is composed of clear, tabular apophyllites to 2.1 cm in diameter in a very aesthetic stack.  Zero damage floater which shows a small area of attachment not recrystallized.  Fine, showy specimen.  55$

OKI-404

OKI-404    Goethite pseudo after Pyrite    Great Valley, Malvern, Chester Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  A fine pseudo exhibiting a very high luster and metallic brown color.  There is one tiny chip on one corner which shows bright gold ptrite showing through at a depth of about a millimeter.  2.6 x 1.9 x .9 cm.  A classic east coast specimen.  40$

OKI-394

OKI-394    Natrolite     Kibblehouse Quarry, Perkiomenville, Montgomery Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.   A matrix plate that is square in shape with mineralization on one face.  4 cm on edge.  A good example of this classic and uncommon east coast material.  No damage.  40$

OKI-385

OKI-385    Celestine and Strontianite    Meckley Quarry, Mandata, Northumberland Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  I usually will not list these specimens because they are so common…but this one exceeds all previous standards I have witnessed for this locale.  6.5 x 5.7 x 4 cm overall.  The celestines on this one are coated, sometimes quite thick, by strontianite which is bright white in color.  Damage free, minor contacts and good views from any direction.  Sits well and is exceptionally aesthetic for this locality.  250$

OKI-382

OKI-382    Celestine and Strontianite    Meckley Quarry, Mandata, Northumberland Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  I usually will not list these specimens because they are so common…but this one exceeds all previous standards I have witnessed for this locale.  This miniature is a real looker!  The photos should make clear that this is not the standard Meckley specimen.  It measures 4.9 x 4.3 x 2.5 cm.  The Celestine are gem and a nice blue color.  The strontianite balls are bright white and created both a color and form contrast which is exceptional.  Only damage is to one strontianite ball which is cleaved Very tiny and tough to make out).  There are minor contacts but for the most part it views exceptionally well from various sides.  325$

OKF-491

OKF-491    Apophyllite    Cornwall Iron Mine, Cornwall, Lebanon, Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  3.5 x 2.8 x 2.1 cm ball of crystals with individuals to 1.8 cm.  Fine luster and no damage to this aesthetic piece.  Classic east coast locale.  75$

OKF-705

OKF-705    Chalcopyrite, Pyrite, Magnetite and Byssolite      French Creek Mines, St. Peter, Chester Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection, circ. 1936.  This is one of those old classic from a noteworthy east coast occurrence.  This hefty piece of sphalerite matrix measures approx 8 cm wide and contains well formed magnetite crystals (small) and a network of large hoppered chalcopyrites.  Their luster varies from very bright to dull and some areas have a good deal of irridecece.  There are high luster pyrites in a few places.  There is also some calcite which was not etched away when this piece was prepared for sale 70 plus years ago.  It is thick and stable with well protected damage free crystal.  It does not display especially well from the sides.  A substantial piece from a classic locale.  195$

OKF-670

OKF-670     Pyrite     French Creek Mine, St. Peters, Chester Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  This is a stunning 1979 specimen that probably looks as good as the day it was found.  It is composed of intergrown crystals to 1.5 cm each.  They have interesting rounded octahedral modifications and curved faces.  The specimen measures 3.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm.  There is no damage but the specimen is glued to a wood base with historical information in its bottom.  A couple areas have sphalerite coating them.  There appears to be no contacts.  I’ve decided to leave the specimen on the base so the new owner can decide if they want to remove it.   Very nice classic east coast specimen.  225$

OKI-007

OKI-007    Strontianite    Quarry “A”, Pine Creek, Jersey Shore, PA.    Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  Prev. Bill Condon Collection.  This large, 2.7 cm spray of white strontianite crystals is encircled by gemmy calcites above and to its sides.  The small vug really sets off the front of this specimen.  The back also has some calcite and strontianite too.  6.4 x 4.4 x 2.5 cm overall.  A fine specimen and an unusual locale.  95$

OKI-004

OKI-004    Pyrite and Magnetite    French Creek Mines, St. Peters, Chester Co., PA.    Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  This crystal cluster measures 3.3 x 3.2 x 3 cm and is a competition level pyrite thumbnail specimen.  It displays well looking far larger than it actually is.  The luster is nice, zero damage and an interesting form which I’m actually unsure of.  Only minor magnetite.  This is a classic east coast locality which is known for its pyrites and one can see why when viewing this fine example.  300$

OKF-509

OKF-509    Pyrite    Cornwall Iron Mines, Cornwall, Lebanon Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  Prev. Byron Brookmyer, 1980.   I am at an absolute loss to try and describe the crystallography of this unique crystal.  I have never seen anything like it!  I’ll have to let the photos do that….it does however measure 2.9 cm long, have a nice luster and basil attachments with no damage.  Very cool for anyone interested in a mineralogical mystery.  130$
