OKH-738

OKH-738      Smithsonite       Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia, South West Africa.  Ex. Thomas G. Fowler collection.  Although it is only miniature sized, this piece grabs your attention.  The largest crystal protrudes out of the others showing up to 2.5 cm of its length (of course there is almost as much buried amongst the intergrown crystals) and has a high luster and extremely fine, sharp form.  The specimen is mostly large crystals and is a light yellow color (probably cadmian).  It sits perfectly with the large crystal vertical and contact hidden below of to the back.  Side views are good too!  There are a few light brown hematite staining lines following crystal striations which add some contrast.  The crystals themselves are very transparent with a change to translucence at depth.  4.5 x 3.8 x 3.2 cm overall.  The little grove at the tip of large crystal is a face and that interesting characteristic shows on a couple of the other large crystal.  This is certainly a fantastic miniature in many regards.   $2,300

OKH-739      Smithsonite       Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia, South West Africa.  Ex. Thomas G. Fowler collection.  This 5.5 x 4 x 3.5 specimen shows an open seam with a number of relatively large smithsonites, to 1.2 cm each, of an unusual color.  They light tan color and have what appear to be hematite dots on much of their surfaces.  There is no damage however one crystal at the edge of the piece is missing.  Interesting example and the only one like this I have found in the collection.  $375

OKG-089

OKG-089    Calcite and Quartz    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.   8.2 x 6.5 x 4.2 cm with calcites to 1.5 cm.  This is a fine example of one of the rare calcite varieties.  Almost all crystals show selective face phantoms of interesting form and nice orange red color.  The same faces are slightly sunken (or hoppered/ skeletal).  Minor sulfides.  The only damage is on edges and one large crystal on edge is noticeably broken, but this should all be expected in specimens broken free from their homes in the rock.  All crystals making up the body of the specimen are well formed and glassy in luster.  Very fine example.  $195

OKJ-977

OKJ-977    Calcite    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.   8.2 x 6.5 x 4.2 cm with calcites to 1.5 cm.  $.1 x 3.3 x 2.8 cm.   A stepped growth single crystal with amazing phantoms on select faces.  The phantoms are a mix of browns and silvers and are hematite.  These phantoms, and the crystal itself, are far more attractive and interesting in-hand.  Nice luster and no damage to the crystal.  A very attractive specimen.  $95

OKG-089    Calcite, Quartz, Hematite    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.   5.7 x 4 x 2.5 cm with the largest calcite measuring 2 cm in diameter.  I could not capture the fact that these crystals are actually transparent (with some inclusions).  They are very high in luster, also not show well in the images, beautifully formed, and the smaller ones appear to be twinned.  No damage.  $95

OKG-362

OKG-089    Calcite and Quartz    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.   6.4 x 5.2 x 3.2 cm with calcites to 1.5 cm.  This is a fine example of one of the rare calcite varieties.  Almost all crystals show selective face phantoms of interesting form and nice orange red color.  The same faces are sometimes slightly sunken (or hoppered/ skeletal).  Minor sulfides.  The only damage is on as should all be expected in specimens broken free from their homes in the rock.  All crystals making up the body of the specimen are well formed and glassy in luster.  Very fine example.     $195

OKG-340

OKG-340    Calcite, Prehnite, Quartz    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.   4 x 3.5 x 2 cm with quartz to 1.6 cm.  Rather dirty looking specimen with liberal hematite coatings.  Green prehnite balls in nice balanced quantities.  If the specimen were soaked in Iron Out the appearance would be clear quartz with green prehnite.  I'll leave that up to the next owner as I like these coatings.   $50
