I believe Chinese fluorites to be one of the most under appreciated of mineral specimens on today's market.  For about a decade they have been readily available at dirt cheap prices.  That is quickly changing as collectors learn to appreciate their multitudes of colors, forms and associations.  These are specimens to be moved on quickly (remember what happened to Tri-state fluorites!) while many are still available.

 OKK-822

OKK-822     Fluorite and Quartz    Xianghuapu Mine, Hunan Province, China.  Beautifully formed, clear to very light green (I think the only reason they look greenish is because of the matrix) fluorite crystals on a light green rock matrix.  The matrix is quartz coated (crystals).  Crystals are gemmy and highly lustrous.  A damage free piece measuring 5.9 x 4.2 x 2 cm with crystals to 1.3 cm across.  They are cubes highly modified by dodecahedrons.  Very fine.   $65 OKK-823 OKK-823 Fluorite Xianghuapu Mine, Hunan Province, China. Beautifully formed, clear to very light green (I think the only reason they look greenish is because of the matrix) fluorite crystals on a light green rock matrix. Crystals are gemmy and highly lustrous. 5.5 x 4.5 x 3.6 cm with crystals to 1.6 cm across. They are cubes highly modified by dodecahedrons. No damage. Very fine.$80

Crystals are gemmy and highly lustrous. 7 x 5.1 x 2.8 cm with crystals to 1.5 cm across. They are cubes highly modified by dodecahedrons. No damage. Very fine.$140

 OKK-826

OKK-826     Fluorite      Xianghuapu Mine, Hunan Province, China.  5.5 x 4.3 x 3 cm Piece with large cubes on a thin sliver of quartz crystallized matrix.  No damage.  Great miniature.  $60 OKK-827 Dolomite crystals on phantoms OKK-827 Fluorite with Dolomite inclusions Xianghuapu Mine, Hunan Province, China. Beautifully formed, transparent light bluish/ purplish green fluorite crystals on a fluorite matrix. Crystals are gemmy and glassy to frosted depending on the faces. 11 x 10.5 x 4.5 cm with crystals to 2.4 cm across. They are cubes with no modifications. No damage. The really nice feature this specimen has is that some of the cubes have nice purple phantoms that were coated by sharp white dolomite rhombs and eventually these prior crystals were coated by the final green fluorite. The phantons are well defined and very interesting. Nice.$190

 OKL-527

OKL-527     Fluorite    Dong Po, Hunan Prov., China.  An attractive crystal of light green fluorite high on a crystallized matrix of quartz.  It measures 3 x 2.5 x 1.7 cm overall and the fluorite is 1.3 cm in diameter.  It is frosted on some faces and of high luster on others which show off its gemmy interior.  Cuboctaheral form with what also looks to be dodecahedral modifications.  Very nice!!  No damage and mounted in a perky box.  $45 OKL-528 OKL-528 Fluorite Dong Po, Hunan Prov., China. An attractive crystal of light green fluorite high on a crystallized matrix of quartz. It measures 3.2 x 2.6 x 2 cm overall. It is frosted on some faces and of high luster on others which show off its gemmy interior. Cuboctaheral form. No damage but ther is strong backside contact. Mounted in a perky box.$30

 OKL-606

OKL-606    Fluorite and Quartz    Dong Po, Hunan Prov., China.  An attractive, inexpensive specimen measuring 8 x 5 x 3.3 cm with fluorites in cuboctohedral form to 2.6 cm each.  Some surfaces have fluorite overgrowths as can be seen,  Matrix is coated by druse quartz.  No damage.   $35 OKL-597 Calcite OKL-597 Calcite on Fluorite Xianhualing, Hunan Prov., China. This piece is dominated by two octaheda of transparent, green fluorite to 4.3 cm on edge. On their surfaces are a few disc shaped rhombs of gray calcite for contrast. The fluorite surfaces are etched looking however they are small modifications by cubes. This has become contemporary material that will likely become classic. The piece is a floater with healed contacts and in its base what appears to be a case that is also crystallized where the thin crystal (maybe anhydrite) was. 6 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm and no damage. Harder and harder to find these now. A great price on this one.$40

 OKL-588

OKL-588    Scepter Quartz and Fluorite     Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhan League, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. An attractive miniature measuring 5.5 x 3.5 x 3.2 cm with well formed cuboctahedrons of transparent fluorite.  The largest crystal measures 3.4 cm in diameter and sits well in the center of the specimen.  Some faces are glassy and some show surface modifications but the transparency is very obvious.  The matrix is clearly seen through the crystals as are the small scepter quartz inclusions (very neat!). One small quartz scepter all on what appears to be dolomite.  Floater with only one old, healed contact.  A pretty amazing find for this quality and price.  $145 OKL-574 OKL-574 Fluorite and minor Quartz Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhan League, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. Large parallel growth light green crystalsThese are octahedrons modified by cubic and dodecahedral forms. The crystals are transparent and included by what looks to be dolomite or maybe quartz in places. One one surface there are a few fine but small quartz crystals with unique white phantoms running their length. This is a floater which may once have had a base contact (now healed). No damage and an interesting form. Displays great from any direction. Great price for a damage free grouping of this quality.$95

 OKK-199

OKK-199    Quartz, Fluorite, Dolomite, Calcite    Yaogangxian Mine, Hunan Prov., China.  An outstanding example with light green gemmy fluorite on mixed mineral matrix.  All species in clean double terminated crystals.  Only contact is on backside of fluorite showing as a hidden corner cleave.  Great piece from a prolific and popular location.  5.5 x 4.3 x 3.2 cm.  Fluorite is 2.2 cm on edge.  Sits on edge for display.   $195 OKK-780 Base OKK-780 Fluorite and Garnet Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhan League, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. This cabinet sized specimen measures 8.5 x 6 x 5 cm. It is composed of dark greenish black euhedral garnets with clear octahedral fluorites in parallel growth. The garnets are well formed, opaque, and have a satin luster while the fluorites are gemmy, complex in form and have faces that vary in their luster. The quality of the piece is outstanding with edge contacts being only slightly evident and primary crystals being damage free. The specimen is crystallized nicely on almost all surfaces and showy due to the contrast of colors and textures. These are fairly common species for the find but a very uncommon association for Inner Mongolia. A very fine specimen.$750

 OKK-781

OKK-781     Fluorite     Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhan League, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.  This is an exceeding well balanced and aesthetic fluorite for this occurrence, or for that matter, anywhere.  It measures 8 x 6.5 x 4.1 cm and shows the largest crystal 4 cm in diameter) in a central position surrounded by smaller crystals.  The crystals are large cuboctahedral forms with some faces being smooth while others are stepped.  The smooth faces give view of the crystal’s gemmy, water clear interiors all the way to the matrix on which they rest.  A very attractive, desirable, and damage free specimen.  I think this one will be very popular.  $490 OKK-782 This image shows the proper color and lighting. OKK-782 Fluorite Huanggangliang Mine, It measures 8.3 x 7 x 4.3 cm and shows numerous large crystal intergrown on matrix. The crystals are large cuboctahedral forms with some faces being smooth while others are stepped. The smooth faces give view of the crystal’s gemmy, water clear interiors all the way to the matrix on which they rest. A very attractive, desirable, and damage free specimen. Good specimens of fluorite like this from China are becoming very cost prohibitive. This one is a superior example at a reasonable price.$450

 OKJ-424

OKJ-424    Fluorite    Xianghualing Mine, Hunan Prov., China.  Another older specimen from the 1990s.  Composed of gemmy green octahedrons with cubic surface modifications that give the crystals a frosted appearance.  The specimen measures 6.6 x 4.5 x 3 cm and sits on edge for display.  Contact on one edge and very minor contact on back.  Displays very nicely.  An excellent fluorite of nice luster and color.  $125 OKJ-419 OKJ-419 Fluorite and Dolomite Shangbao Mine, Leiyang County, Hengyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China. Old material that made the mine famous. Cubes to almost a cm each scattered with dolomite crystals. Dolomite crystal inclusions are obvious as is the specimen’s sculptural form. Fine luster. I can find only two tiny spots with chips using magnification, so overall, this specimen is in fantastic shape. 100$

OKH-776     Pyrite on Fluorite      Yunnan Prov., China.  Ex. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.  At first glance this looks like a pyrite cube.  Actually it is far more interesting….This well formed cube of fluorite is coated on most of its surface by tiny randomly oriented cubes of pyrite.  The cubes have minor modifications by dodecahedrons and octahedrons making them even more interesting.  An interesting, damage free specimen.   The base of cube is not coated and you can see the fluorite here and on part of one exposed face.  2.5 x 2.5 x 2 cm.  $75 OKH-601 OKH-601 Fluorite and Calcite Guyang, Hunan Prov., China. Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection. This specimen is of large single octahedron measuring to 5 cm on edge. The entire piece is a floater measuring 6 x 5.2 x 4.4 cm overall. The octahedron is highly modified by cubic overgrowth. The luster is very high in the crystal appears gemmy throughout, no inclusions or fractures of any type. The color is brighter than the photos indicate, it is a similar green to the very highest quality Wise Mine specimens. The original price 15 years ago was$85, I am only asking   $75. OKF-612 Back OKF-612 Fluorite Shangbao Mine, Leiyang County, Hengyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China. A fine damage free specimen with crystals coating both sides. Cubes of fluorite are to 1.4 cm each and entire piece measures 7.4 x 5 x 2.5 cm. Cubes are water clear with purple, internal, selective edge phantoms. Minor edge contacts and minor white barite. This is a specimen I would have purchased in the late 1990s and still has a 1990s price. 25$

OKF-612    Fluorite      Shangbao Mine, Leiyang County, Hengyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China  A fine damage free specimen with crystals coating both sides.  Cubes of fluorite are to 1.3 cm each and entire piece measures 6.8 x 6.7 x 2.5 cm.  Diagonal, 8.5 cm.  Cubes are water clear with purple, internal, selective edge phantoms.  Contacts on 3 edges and minor white barite.  This is a specimen I would have purchased in the late 1990s and still has a 1990s price.  30$ OKI-092 OKI-092 Fluorite, Arsenopyrite and Quartz Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. A great combo of metallic, gemmy and color. 7.5 x 6.6 x 3.4 cm. One quartz near the edge of the piece is broke off but not eye catching. Nice phantoms in the fluorites. A great value. 70$

 OKI-080

OKI-080    Fluorite    Xianghuapu Mine, China.  These specimens are usually so large they are not very suitable for most collections.  This one is nicely proportioned at 12.5 x 9.5 x 7 cm overall.  The crystals are up to 5.4 cm on edge and have a moderately stepped growth form to their surfaces.  Minor white matrix isn’t really visible from most views.  Translucent to gemmy and a mild green color.  The image does not do this fine piece justice.  Excellent contemporary cabinet specimen.  100$ OKF-560 Back Bottom Custom engraved acrylic base. OKF-560 Fluorite on Quartz Xie Fan Mine, Jianxi Prov., China. I don’t tend to carry a whole lot of specimens which I would consider to be the best of their kind. This piece however is the best of a find that came out of China two years ago and has yet to be topped. I have seen a few dozen chunks of fluorite and a few good miniatures from this find. Also, I own another, bigger, specimen from this find but it is not as displayable as this one. Specimens from this limited find seem to almost always have damage, too. This specimen measures 10.6 x 7.5 x 6 cm with cuboctahedral fluorites to 5 cm in diameter on milky quartz crystals to 5.8 cm in length. The entire specimen is a floater which was attached to other crystallized rock but has since separated and regrown crystal faces on those broken surfaces. The fluorites are a light sea green color and have interesting inclusions totally unique to this find. Inside the crystals on a lower level (earlier crystal surfaces) there are several forms of inclusions. The white spots could be anything, most likely tiny calcites or dolomites. The brown dendritic inclusions however are more complex. No analysis of these is known to me, but I believe they are branching groups of pyrite crystals which in some cases have altered to goethite on their ends (which were likely once exposed to oxygen). The backsides of the fluorites are stepped in growth while the fronts are very clean. Most surfaces look slightly etched (frosted) but this is an overgrowth of cubic crystal faces. There is no damage to this exceptional display piece. This is a world class fluorite specimen form a find which appears to be exhausted. Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. 2,900$

 OKF-558

OKF-558    Fluorite, Jamesonite, Quartz and Arsenopyrite on Mica     Yangangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China.   This 1.5 x 9 x 5.5 cm specimen is best described as a dome which is a floater that has been recrystallized, in part, on its base.  An area on the back may be a matrix contact but I think it is just a zone which has not mineralized on the pieces surface.  The primary minerals of fluorite and arsenopyrite are well spread apart for nice differentiation.  The fluorites almost reach a cm and the arsenos are in some cases over a cm.  The fluorites are an attractive light greenish blue and one has some really cool phantoms isolated to its corners.  This is a nice quality, damage free specimen which displays great.  140$ OKF-362 OKF-362 Fluorite on Quartz Yaogangxian Mine, Hunan Prov., China. A nice grouping of light blue fluorite cubes attached to a singly terminated quartz crystal with a slightly regrown contact end. Two contacts/ damage areas in cube cluster. Double terminated tabular quartz in the middle of the cube cluster too. Stands on end. Everything has high luster and good form. 7 x 4.2 x 4 cm.$65

 OKE-276

OKE-276    Fluorite and Dolomite on Quartz    Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China.   10 cm long specimen with an interesting mix.  Groupings of dolomites and fluorite cubes to 1.2 cm on edge coat the primary display face of this piece.  Much of tha backside is also mineralized but this is predominantly quartz.  Lots going on here.  A couple tiny dings but still very displayable and attractive.   28$ OKE-251 OKE-251 Quartz on Fluorite Xianghauling Cassiterite Mine, Linwu County, Chenzhou District, Hunan Prov., China. This is an old and very unusual specimen which may just be a one-on-a-kind. The cluster measures 8.8 x 5 x 5.5 cm and is composed of light white, transparent (gemmy), octahedrons of fluorite up to 2,2 cm on edge. This very rare color and form is partially coated by “pop corn” quartz. There is great crystal separation and the crystals also stand out in relief quite nicely. I have never seen another specimen from this mine (or any others) quite like this. This specimen is damage free and displays nicely from several views. A very unique piece which should find a home quickly with a collector who looks for the unusual and attractive. Only 325$

 OKE-249

OKE- 249    Fluorite and Quartz (minor pyrite and calcite overgrowths and inclusions)   Shangbao Pyrite Mine, Leiyang City, Hunan Prov., China.   Here is a very old (mid-1990s) piece that is seldom seen any more.  Nice blue cubes with complex surfaces and some white fluorite, second generation, overgrowths.  Also minor pyrite and calcite overgrowths which add interest to this unusual specimen.  Big white quartz points have purple cores.  Some of the fluorites have white faces from fluorite coatings.  12.5 x 9.5 x 6 cm with fluorites to 2.3 cm on edge.  Zero damage on this complex and interesting piece.  450$ OKE-223 Pyrite and Quartz close up Complex fluorites... OKE-223 Fluorite, Pyrite and Quartz Sui Ko Sau Mine, Hunan Prov., China. Great specimen for those looking to find the unusual. These fluorites are cubes modified by dodecahedrons. They are water clear and the unusual part…they are nucleated on barite balls. So, inside each fluorite is a ball of white opaque barite. Backside of plate is also mineralized. Big fluorite has a couple very ting pin marks on surface. 9.5 x 6 x 3 cm. Very nice and interesting. 60$

 OKE-213

OKE-213     Fluorite     Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China.  A single cube measuring 3 cm on edge.  A complex surface texture makes the cube look etched but it is actually bluish purple and clear.  There seems to be corner phantoms.  The bas is tiny clear fluorites, arsenopyrites and other minerals all in minor amounts.  No damage.  Another unusual specimen.  60$ OKE-211 Back OKE-211 Fluorite, Pyrite and Quartz Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. Lots going on within this specimen…first generation quartz in large milky crystals which in turn are covered by fluorites of a light blue color, Pyrites and a second generation of tint clear quartz. The fluorites are quite nice with lots of pyrite inclusions. The piece is a floater and damage free. Measures 10 x 7 x 4 cm. 70$

 OKE-161

OKE-161    Fluorite    Xianghuapu, Linwu County, Chenzhou District, Hunan Prov., China.   Huge cluster of green cubes to \over 4 cm each on edge.  The cluster is a dome shaped piece which is in excellent condition.  There are two or three small rubs and one badly dinged cube on the backside.  Great condition for such a large piece.  Approximately 28 x 22 x 14 cm in size.  Cubes have great clarity and a frosted surface effect yet retains a nice satin luster.  Nice phantoms in some crystals.  The matrix is brown and can be viewed through many of the crystals and between them in a couple of places.  A fine specimen to bring some size contrast to a collection focusing on smaller specimens or an excellent home decor piece.  1,950$ OKE-072 OKE-072 Corner Phantomed, Skeletal Fluorite on Arsenopyrite, Quartz and Mica Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. Beautifully displayed fluorite on a fine mineral mix. The cube has rare corner phantoms. It also has a couple very tiny chips which hide themselves well and are only noticeable with magnification. It is a very good piece. 170$

 OKE-157

OKE-157    Fluorite on Quartz    Xianghauling Cassiterite Mine, Linwu County, Chenzhou District, Hunan Prov., China.   Beautiful green, frosted octahedra of fluorite on white quartz.  Largest crystal has a big surface contact where another crystal once was.  This is not very evident but I do consider it to be damaged and have discounted the specimen accordingly.  The fluorites have nice separation on the matrix and are growing on all sides of this complex matrix.  The biggest of the crystals is over 3 cm on edge and sits centrally within the 11.5 x 11 x 7.5 cm piece.  A nice deal on an attractive grouping of octahedral fluorite.   50$ OKE-074 OKE-074 Fluorite and Feldspar pseudo. after Dolomite on Quartz Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. A fine double terminated clear yet somewhat milky quartz crystal with a 1.1 cm fluorite. The fluorite is almost water clear with light purple phantom. The feldspar pseudo is near the tip of the quartz crystal. A beautiful, yet tiny specimen. There is a contact behind the fluorite but this is regrown. No damage to this fine floater. If you like them small and highly aesthetic….here it is. 45$

 OKE-204

OKE-204    Fluorite on Quartz    Jiangxi Prov., China.   7.3 x 6.9 x 5 cm plate with one large (3.5 cm diameter) and several smaller (to a cm ball like crystals of green fluorite on white quartz.  The fluorites are cuboctahedrons which have tiny cubic overgrowths which make them look highly frosted in appearance.  Sawn down to size and displayable in several ways.  A nicely proportioned specimen with zero damage.  125$ OKE-218 OKE-218 Fluorite and Calcite Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. A quartz plate which has a complex purple penetration twin of fluorite. Tiny ding to one corner of fluorite which isn’t noticeable without magnification. Fluorites measure 2.5 cm across. Piece is 9 x 6 x 2.6 cm. A great value at….. 15$

OKE-215    Fluorite and Calcite    Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China.  The smaller pieces like this one can be very sculptural and aesthetic.  This one is a nice little cluster with cubes to 1.7 cm on edge.  The specimen measures 6 x 5 x 3.3 cm and has the unusual phantoms expected from this new material.  Damage free.  Only a tiny contact on the base, otherwise a floater.   50$ OKE-143 Back OKE-143 Fluorite and Calcite Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. The smaller pieces like this one can be very sculptural and aesthetic. This cluster is composed of cubes to 1.5 cm on edge which have interesting clay? Phantoms. The specimen measures 9 x 6 x 2.8 cm and has a small piece of matric rock locked into its form. There is only minimal contact where I have mounted it on the acrylic plate so it is basically a floater with damage to any other spots. Fine and very displayable. Greener in color than the photo indicates. 110$

 OKD-492

OKD-492     Barite on Fluorite    Xi Fang, Xing Guo County, Jiangxi Prov., China.   These are the specimens discussed in a recent Mineralogical Record show review.  Very hard to get material!!!!  I had the pick of three flats of material from all the dealers I work with and I managed to high-grade seven specimens worthy of the high prices being asked for them. Other dealers estimate this find as having as few as 30 specimens total! Almost all were damaged to some degree, including a few of these.  The remaining specimens were all grabbed up by another dealer without his even looking in the boxes!  And that was that.  This large plate is damage free with big cubes to 2.1 cm each.  13.5 x 10 x 3 cm with a sawn flat base.  The barites are high in luster and deep gold in color.  Not a lot of barites but still very attractive and highly desirable specimen.  400$ OKD-495 Barite close up. OKD-495 Barite on Fluorite Xi Fang, Xing Guo County, Jiangxi Prov., China. These are the specimens discussed in a recent Mineralogical Record show review. Very hard to get material!!!! The remaining specimens were all grabbed up by another dealer without his even looking in the boxes! And that was that. A beautifully formed plate of fluorites to 2.6 cm on edge measuring 12 x 9 cm. 3 cm thick with a sawn flat base this specimen displays very nicely. Nice light purple casts/ partial phantoms. Damage free and aesthetic. 380$

 OKB-468

OKB-468    Fluorite, Quartz    Hunan, China.    Sea green cubes to 2.4 cm each.  Older material from China.  Better quality than recent pieces.  7 x 6 x 4 overall.  Penetration twins, nice small white bloom of quartz to add contrast.  55$ OKA-539 Specimen is very light blue...does not show well in photo. OKA-539 Fluorite/ Calcite Xiang Fang Mine, Hunan, China. 7 x 5 cm grouping of large (to 3.5 cm) frosted blue octahedrons. Numerous white/clear nailhead calcites to 2 cm stand up nicely on the surface. Some of these calcites have been roughed up on their edges. This is still a quality piece of a highly sought after form and color of fluorite. 85$
