OKP-418

Back

OKP-418      Quartz, Hematite, Calcite, Goethite after ?      Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This mixed mineral piece measures 7 x 5.1 x 3.2 cm.  It is crystallized on all sides except its base and a small area on top (it is met to be displayed as seen in the first image).  Red hematite balls on quartz and the calcites are obvious.  Dark brown crystals of what looks like marcasite appear to be replaced by goethite.  Minor damage to quartz as seen and a couple small calcite cleaves on back.  Excellent condition overall.  $150

OKP-419

OKP-419      Calcite and Quartz      Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This specimen offers clear calcites with selective face overgrowths of hematite.  The piece measures 5.5 x 5.3 x 3.4 cm.  High luster and nice contrasts.  No damage.  $70

OKG-022

OKG-022      Calcite, Prehnite, Quartz      Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This specimen measures 7.5 x 6.8 x 4.5 cm overall and is crystallized on all sides.  There are the usual nice things such as selective face coatings and interesting and complex calcites but these have a nice coating of green prehnites.  It is in wonderful condition showing a tiny cleave on one calcite (I found it with magnification). and only this smallest of contacts on the pointed end that faces to the lower left in the first image.  $295

OKG-282

OKG-282      Quartz cast after Anhydrite      Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This is a very large crystal cast that measures 6.3 x 5.4 x 2.7 cm in largest dimensions (5.1 cm on longest edge).  One tiny quartz crystal in center of piece is broken off but difficult to notice.  Attached casts at base of piece with one being incomplete.  This is a fine example of one of these important specimens.  $225

OKG-316

OKG-316      Quartz and Calcite on Stalactite       Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This stalactite is 9.2 x 4 x 3.4 cm.  It is actually two stalactites in parallel growth that have grown together.  Two very tiny rubs on back.  Displays wonderfully from any direction.  A couple calcites show interesting healed surfaces.  The luster is better than the images indicate.  Great piece!  $350

OKG-652

OKG-652      Quartz and Calcite on Stalactites       Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This is an interesting miniature that measures 4.5 x 3 x 3 cm.  It is a floater with healed stalactites and a large clear calcite making up the body of the specimen.  Some of the quartz are clear, others have a bluish chalcedony like coating on parts of their prisms.  It is damage-free, aesthetic and interesting.  $150

OKG-075

Base

OKG-075      Quartz and Hematite       Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This 6.1 x 5.1 x 3.4 cm piece is made up of clear beta-form quartz crystals on quartz druse.  There are a few blades of brown and a few silver hematites.  Also, brown hematite balls.  No damage, edge contacts on matrix.  Very nice for this rarest of the quartz forms from this quarry.  $95

OKG-253

OKG-253      Datolite, Quartz, Calcite       Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This is a plate of large, transparent to translucent datolite crystals of a very light green color.  The plate is equally nice on either side with crystals to 3.5 cm each. The piece is 7 x 5 x 2.9 cm.  The tan/browns are quartz druse overgrowths and there are a couple tiny calcites as well as some prehnite intergrown in the base.  I consider the base to be the edge that it sits up on nicely for display.  This is the only area of contact and all visible surfaces are damage free and aesthetic.  This is the second nicest datolite specimen I have seen from this quarry and what I would consider an important east coast specimen.  Better in person.  $800

OKG-086

OKG-086      Hematite, Calcite, Quartz with Quartz Stalactites   Roncari Quarry, Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.  Collected by Jerry Marchand.  This This is an 8.5 x 5.5 x 3 cm piece that kind of defies description.  The piece is really one elongated, complex calcite with a large crystal coming out of it at about an 80 degree angle.  The end has small stalactites intergrown into it.  Tiny brown hematite ball are seen on all surfaces and one one of the calcites in a linear arrangement (see center of last image).  Large variations in luster.  Only two SMALL contacts on the end of stalactite and that same end of piece.  Excellent condition, interesting and unusual.  $180
