OKL-576

OKL-576   Quartz with Goethite    Tichka Massif, High Atlas Mountains, Morocco.  This example is an aesthetic geode shaped piece totally filled with short, stocky Herkimer diamond like, single and double terminated crystals that are transparent and high in luster.  They are often included by sprays of acicular brown to tan colored goethite crystals with the goethite extending out of the quartz in many instances.  The effect of this mineral combination is pleasing and to a quartz collector this material is certainly desirable.  I have not seen much of this material available (only with one other dealer at Tucson this year, 2014) so I am assuming it remains uncommon. 11 x 9 x 6 cm overall and totally damage free.  $195

OKL-577

OKL-577   Quartz with Goethite    RESERVED     Tichka Massif, High Atlas Mountains, Morocco.  This example is an aesthetic dome shaped piece totally coated by short, stocky Herkimer diamond like, single and double terminated crystals that are transparent and high in luster.  The specimen is naturally split down the middle (horse shoe like in shape) and thus more three dimensional than it appears in the images.  The crystals are often included by sprays of acicular brown to tan colored goethite crystals with the goethite extending out of the quartz in some instances.  The effect of this mineral combination is pleasing and to a quartz collector this material is certainly desirable.  I have not seen much of this material available (only with one other dealer at Tucson this year, 2014) so I am assuming it remains uncommon. 8.2 x 6 x 3.5 cm overall with only one small ding that is difficult to find and certainly not distracting.    $350

OKL-578

OKL-578   Gypsum on Dolomite    Penfield Quarry, Penfield, Monroe County, New York.  Ex. Bob Trimingham collection.  This section of dolostone is dominated by an opening coated with white dolomite crystals and a morphed crystal of gypsum on their surface.  The gypsum is clear and damage free. 10 x 6.5 x 6 cm.     $25

OKL-579

OKL-579   Quartz     RESERVED   Sunshine #2 Mine, Bingham, Socorro County, New Mexico.  This piece is a somewhat triangular shaped piece of matrix coated nicely by three colors of  quartz points.  White, gray and black crystals create a nice contrast to add to the high luster of this specimen.  It measures 5.9 x 4.7 x 2.5 cm and sits/ displays beautifully.  I have not seen this material before so cannot comment on how unusual it is.  In hand it looks like very high quality Herkimer diamond black quartz druse.  $85

OKL-580

OKL-580   Diopside with Ferroactinolite   Natural Bridge, Diana Township, Lewis County, New York.  Ex. Bob Trimingham collection. This is actually a really important mineral occurrence, and this a fine specimen for the location!  I have collected there often and never found anything close to this in quality.  It is composed of several crystals one of poor form but the other two sharp and well terminated (one double terminated).  The minor blue coatings are ferroactinolite.  6 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm. This is a historic specimen probably from the mid 1800s marked by Bob as having come with hand written note that this is an old specimen from the U.S.G.S..  Although it is not what I would call an aesthetic mineral specimen, I have viewed the best of this material and am well aware that this is an outstanding example and well-priced at  $250

OKL-581

OKL-581   Quartz       RESERVED      R.R. Cut off of Rt. # 9W, near Bethlehem Center, Albany County, New York.  Ex. Bob Trimingham collection.  A large example of clear to white quartz in crystals to 2 cm each.  11 x 9 x 4.7 cm overall.  A couple minor dings but overall in fine shape.    $70

OKL-582

OKL-582   Calcite, Gypsum and Dolomite    Santa Catalina Island, Los Angeles County, California.  Ex. Bob Trimingham collection.  A very unusual calcite that on first glance woulf pass as a pseudomorph after wulfenite.  Large tabular crystals are up to 3.5 cm each and coat the upper surface of the piece.  Most of the crystals stand up in high relief and give you an excellent look at their strange morphology. A nice little spray of transparent, acicular gypsum crystals on what I would consider to be the backside.  Minor damage to a couple smaller crystals.  10.5 x 7.2 x 4 cm.   $65

OKL-583

OKL-583   Spinel    Amity, Orange County, New York.  Ex. Bob Trimingham collection.  Classic east coast material/ Dana locality.  I've been informed by a knowledgeable colleague that the catalog number to the right indicates that this was previously a Michigan Tech. specimen.  A rich coating of double terminated crystals to a cm each on matrix.  Measures 9.2 x 8.5 x 4.5 cm.  Old collection/ college specimen that is rare to fine nowadays.  Minor chipping but overall in nice condition.  Classics like this are seldom in our inventory for very long.    $225

OKL-584

OKL-584   Fluorapatite     Franklin, Sussex County, New Jersey.  Ex. Bob Trimingham collection. A nicely formed single terminated crystal measuring 2.2 cm long partially embedded in calcite.  Another old timer.  Labeled as fluorescing blue in short wave.  4.9 x 4.1 x 2 cm.    $35

OKL-585

OKL-585   Danburite and Calcite     Characas, San Lois Potosi, Mexico.  Ex. Bob Trimingham collection.  This is a fantastic spray of damage free crystals (only breakage is on base (of course) up to 5 cm each with overgrowths of well formed, double terminated calcites.  Displays very well from all directions.  I dont buy these often due to their often having damage and seldom having good aesthetics.  This one id spectacular!  7.5 x 7 x 6.6 cm.  Very light pink cast to the danburites but mostly water clear.  Very high quality and very reasonable price.  $190

OKL-586

OKL-586      Grossular      Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec, Canada.  Ex. New York State Museum collection.  This example is a floater with one side showing old contact with albite that has weathered free.  Very clean with no damage.  Great luster and crisp crystal form.  Crystals are transparent but salmon colored at depth and translucent.  Not the desired color for one of these so the price is shockingly low for the quality.  If you have the other colors this would be a fine contrast, and less common, for a suite of this noteworthy material. 5 x 4 x 1.8 cm.   $80

OKG-123

OKG-123    Calcite and Quartz Stalactite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  9.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm.  Largest calcites are to 2.5 cm.  A fine large, low luster stalactite.  A few cleaved crystals but overall not in bad condition.  Big calcites have a yellowish green tint and moderate luster.  Interesting and priced to go.  Temporarily mounted on an acrylic  plate with hot glue.  $195

OKJ-966

OKJ-966    Quartz cast after Anhydrite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  6.5 x 4.3 x 2.5 cm.  Several plates or layers of flat anhydrite crystals have had overgrowths of quartz forming an interesting array.  Larger calcites are present but obscured from ideal view between crystal casts.  Large!  Minor breakage on top of one crystal cast and some chips on back.  Overall good quality but not spotless (nor expensive for one of these as a result).  $150

OKG-442

OKG-442    Calcite Twin   RESERVED    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. 5 x 3.5 x 3.2 cm with calcites to 4 cm each.   Calcite crystal coated matrix has large second generation calcites dominating the specimen.  The largest of these is beautifully twinned.  The crystals have a satin luster.  Internally the crystals are gemmy and they show nice rainbows in some cases when backlit.  AN excellent calcite miniature with no damage and great views from all sides.  Sits well being somewhat flat on base.   $175

Back

OKG-639    Quartz and Prehnite on Calcite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  4.6 x 3.4 x 2 cm with quartz to 1.5 cm.  Although small this fine example has quality examples of the species desired from this find.  A couple very tiny calcites show small cleaves but these are not noticeable without magnification and the piece displays as damage free.   Excellent miniature which is far better in hand showing a nicer, bright luster.  $60

OKG-168

OKG-168      Quartz and Hematite    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  6.4 x 5 x 3 cm with quartz to 1 cm each.  A wonderful example of the uncommon quartz form (beta form) from this location.  Only one crystal broken on the very edge of the piece so most would describe this as damage free... rather tough to break specimens free from their matrix without having the edges showing damage!  Nice hematite balls that add contrasts in shape and color.  A very fine and desirable East Coast specimen.  $165

OKG-083

OKK-751

OKK-751    Albite (variety Peristerite), Phlogopite, and Diopside    Ellis Farm, Macomb, St. Lawrence County, New York.  Collected by Michael Walter, June 10, 2012.  I was able to gain a weeks access to this old locality that had previously been "lost" to time.  Specimens from here have been unavailable for approximately forty years and they represent what I believe are the finest periserite specimens to ever be found in New York State.  This one has large crystals to 3 cm each and measures 6.2 x 4.7 x 3 cm overall.  Very good translucence to crystals and nice blue schiller.  Albite twinning is obvious.  No damage.  $85
