December II, 2011 Update

Fluorite     Chamonix, France.      Ex. Paul and Dawne Dunning Fluorite Collection.  This piece is a well cut 6.37 carat pear shaped stone fashioned by the famous Art Grant.  The photos are off in that the mineral is pink as are the fine crystals from this region.  Approximately 1.35 x 1 cm.  Eye clean.  This is actually a nice, large, faceted stone for the location.  $220

Opal  Lightning Ridge, Australia      Ex. Nancy Collins Collection.  1.3 cm diameter black opal.  This is a high dome of solid opal all of high quality.  All colors present in balanced quality.  Nicely polished and flashy for this type of material.  Again, poor photos but you will find this one to be an exceptional specimen in hand.  $750

OKH-958    Quartz and Ilvaite    Dalnegorsk, Russia.  Ex Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  A cute little grouping measuring 2.7 x 2.4 x 1.8 cm.  Lustrous beta form crystals with minor ilvaites as attachments and inclusions.  This almost floater has two tiny contacts and a Wilber on one quartz tip that is not distracting.  Very nice.  $90

OKH-959

OKH-959    Fluorite and Pyrite     Villabona, Asturias, Spain.  Ex Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  Probably the most common of European fluorite in an uncommonly high quality specimen.  The piece measures 13.2 x 9.6 x 4.8 cm overall with cubes to 1.4 cm.  Several small blemishes but nothing major or distracting.  Very gemmy crystals with small pyrites sprinkled about quite evenly on their surfaces.  Minor quartz shows along edges.  Very aesthetic! Priced to move.  $250

OKH-960    Fluorite, Muscovite and Pyrite      RESERVED     Kara-oba, Central Kazakhstan.  Ex Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  This is one of those specimens you will find yourself looking at time and time again, finding new and interesting things about it each time.  To begin with it is a floater with a wonderful balance sporting a large light green fluorite octahedron central to the grouping, flanked by clear octahedral.  A little quartz crystal on the back is broke off but all views except back show damage free perfection.  Even the base!  The crystals are slightly etched on the centers of some faces and they are etched hollow!  There are secondary dark purple overgrowths of fluorite on selective faces that give the piece an uncommon and attractive appearance.  Along the base are small bright pyrite cubes and yellow muscovite blades.  Moderate luster with a somewhat satin appearance.  The specimen measures 5.1 x 3.5 x 3 cm and is simply a thing of beauty.  A fine miniature in all respects.  $800

OKH-970    Fluorite on Fluorite on Fluorite     RESERVED    Buckskin Mountains, Yuma County, Arizona.  Ex Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  An interesting specimen with three generations of fluorite. It starts with a layer of white crystals followed by green and finally by minor whitish gray crystals in two areas on the surface.  The specimen is a damage free floater measuring 5.4 x 5.2 x 2.4 cm.  Nice translucence, satin luster and the green octahedrons show good form.  A good quality U.S. specimen.  $150

OKH-971

OKH-971    Goethite pseudomorph after Selenite     Laurion, Greece.  Ex Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  Nice casts and partial casts of green and brown color.  As far as pseudomorphs go this is attractive.  The form is fantastic and the color contrasts pleasing.  It is unclear if the missing cases are broke or just not fully formed.  In either case they are not unattractive and show off the fact that each crystal is hollow (a cast).  4 x 2.8 x 1.4 with longest crystal measuring 2.1 cm.    $195

OKH-974   Barite on Fluorite on Stibnite    Kadamdjay, Osh, Krgziziya, U.S.S.R.  Ex Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  Such an uncommon and unusual thing… the association is certainly rare but the color combination and different crystal forms make this a piece to be desired.  It measures 4.4 x 2.4 x 1.6 cm with fluorite to .8 cm and stibnites almost as long as the entire specimen.  The fluorites are deep purple internally but clear on their surfaces.  No damage (floater) except there are two crystal contacts on the left front/ base of the specimen.  A superb miniature with lots of flash, complex composition and rarity all making it special.  $450

OKH-795    Fluorite, Chalcopyrite and ???     RESERVED    Rosicare Level, Denton Mine, Hardin County, Illinois  Ex. Paul and Dawne Dunning Collection.  This piece has the usual qualities including a lustrous cube with yellow core and purple outer surface.  Very nice translucence, good form and the like.  But….the real surprise is the inclusions!  They appear to be individual chalcopyrite crystals with a stem that could be pyrite or marcasite.  These are a thin acicular needle that connects to one side of each chalcopyrite.  I’ve never seen inclusions like this and know anyone interested in this type of thing is going to be very impressed.  One very small rub on the crystal otherwise damage free and of very high quality just as a specimen.  2.9 x 2.5 x 1.6 cm.  Most of the inclusions are large enough to see with the eye measuring 2 to 4 millimeters in length.  Under magnification they are simply mind blowing.  One of these strange inclusions even sits within a small step growth pit on the surface of the crystal!  Simply amazing thing to see in person.  $300
