World-class Arfvedsonites

This rare amphibole is found in only a few locations around the world.  Russia, Africa and Greenland have sites which provide fine specimens but Mt. St-Hilaire has become the classic location for this unusual species.  In 1980 a large pipe was unearthed at the Poudrette Quarry and Bill Dorsett and Dr. Steve Chamberlain were there.  Between them they recovered three large plates which when cleaned where found to be coated by dark black arfvedsonites.  From our research we believe these to be the largest specimens of arfvedsonite ever recovered from the location.  There are several larger individual crystals but nothing that compares to these truly world-class specimens.  These three pieces were exhibited at the 1985 Gemworld as the best of their species.

These specimens are not for just any collection: they are large and somewhat boring being that they are all black.  They are, however, amazing for arfvedsonite specimens.  Any of these could be a wonderful addition to a top Mt. St-Hilaire collection.  Maybe they are a match for yours.

Each plate of crystals is 20 to 30 cm across.  Contact me for full descriptions of each piece.
