January 2010 Update

OKI-496

OKI-496    Sphalerite on Dolomite    Lincoln Quarry, Beamsville, Ontario, Canada.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  This nice TN specimen is capped by a gemmy cluster of sphalerite crystals measuring 1.1 cm in diameter.  3 x 3 x 2.8 cm overall.  No damage and very display worthy.  35$

OKI-497

OKI-497     Azurite     Tsumeb, Namibia.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  This nice TN specimen is a single acicular crystal measuring 2.3 cm (probably longer but I’m not going to chance breaking it by pulling out of the mount).  It is very translucent and internally flawless.  Perfect condition…it looks so good one might think it is fake, but is not.  40$

OKI-498

OKI-498      Apophyllite    Cornwall Iron Mines, Cornwall, Lebanon Co., PA.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  This 3.4 x 3 x 2 cm cluster is composed of clear, tabular apophyllites to 2.1 cm in diameter in a very aesthetic stack.  Zero damage floater which shows a small area of attachment not recrystallized.  Fine, showy specimen.  55$

OKI-499

OKI-499      Prehnite    Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec, Canada.   Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  This fine piece is composed of acicular and blocky prehnite crystals in two generations.  The base has tiny, clear blocky prehnites which look like clear quartz.  On these are the primary crystals which are whiter and translucent.  They reach approx. 1.3 cm each and most are long and acicular.  A few are blocky (they are on the back edge so might be cleave but close inspection makes me think not).  All the crystals have basil pinewood terminations.  The entire piece measures 3.6 x 2.8 x 2.4 cm yet when positioned correctly will fit in a TN box.  Great specimen!!!  170$

OKI-500

OKI-500      Pyrite    Magma Mine, Superior, Pinal Co., Arizona.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection.  A perfect floater with no damage measuring 2.4 cm in its maximum diameter.  Complex pyritohedron with typical sunken, stepped faces.  Attractive.  40$

OKI-501

OKI-501    Topaz on Schorl    Nyet, Braldu Valley, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan.  A very complex black tourmaline with nice double terminated riders of topaz.  The entire specimen measures 8 x 5.5 x 4.7 cm.  Not a true floater due to a couple of contact areas.  Minor quartz which has damage is not obvious.  The topaz crystals are up to 1.6 cm each, gemmy and almost clear.  A very respectable display piece for this price…150$

OKI-502

Side view of termination

Close up of tube like inclusions below termination

OKI-502    Aquamarine    Nyet, Braldu Valley, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan.  A very rare form of termination once found in small quantities (about a decade ago).  This crystal is an impressive 11 cm long and very gemmy.  The base shows matrix contact as would be expected and also has internal needles of black tourmaline.  The termination thin, front to back, as can be seen in the images.  The termination also has internal hollow tubes about the size of a thin pin running parallel to the “c” axis.  Main body of crystal is gem and termination is too but it appears frosted due to a luster contrast.  Very cool display piece.  825$

OKI-503

OKI-503    Quartz and Cleavelandite on Schorl     Sassi, Gilgit-Skardu Raod, Northern Areas, Pakistan.  A fine, large, high luster specimen composed of several large double terminated tourmalines to 8 cm each.  Piece measures 9.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm overall.  Bases of the crystals are overgrown by a silicate that hides those terminations.  A floater with one tourmaline having a small damaged area and the quartz having a tiny (tough to notice) ding.  This fine specimen is very affordable due to the small amount of damage which is not distracting but is there, just the same.  225$

OKI-504

OKI-504    Feldspar, Muscovite and Aquamarine    Xue Bao Ding Mine, Ping Wu, Sichuan Prov., China.  Several nice, translucent white feldspars to 7 cm each stand up nicely on a plate of small aquas and muscovite.  The feldspars are very impressive in form, luster and complexity.  I believe these may be twins (all show twin planes…or perhaps these are parallel growth planes) and are all double terminated.  The piece is a mind blowing damage free floater.  The feldspars also have dissolution etched channels on some faces and not on others.  8 x 4.8 x 4.5 cm.  Amazing in every regard for a feldspar.  200$

OKI-505    Topaz, Quartz, Muscovite and Cleavelandite    above Yuno, Shigar Valley, Balistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan.  A blocky 3 cm topaz centrally placed among the accessory minerals.  The crystal is a medium sherry color and is very gemmy.  Flat base for display.  There are a few internal inclusions and veils…no damage to any surfaces of this fine crystal.  9.9 x 7 x 6 cm.  A nice display piece which is well trimmed and displayable.  1,800$

OKI-506

OKI-506     Apatite    Tormiq, above Baghichi, Gilgit-Skardu Road, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan.  Light yellow gem apatites to over 2 cm each on the top of matrix with an unknown mineral coating.  6.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 cm.  Strong contacts from other crystals and minor damage….I’d accept 90$

OKF-611

OKF-611    Kaemmererite    Pembagul Mine, Kopdag, Erzincan, Turkey.    A liberal coating of tiny, purple, gem crystals to about a millimeter average length each on one side and a partial coating on back.  Some regions mineralized while other areas are barren.  This blocky specimen measures 6 x 4.3 x 4 cm.  Older tag listing the piece at 125$ and I’ll as for the same….125$
