                                                                                                   Dolomite Specimens

This locality was found in town while a water system was being excavated.  No other specimens will be found here in the future!  The dolomite crystals were so fine that for some time they were believed to be calcites.  Almost all examples have ended up in the New York State Museum.  They occasionally turn up in regional collections, but rarely.

OKL-205

OKL-205    Dolomite    Cicero, New York.  Ex. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.  This unusual material was discovered decades ago during an underground project in the city.  At first thought to be calcites, these world class dolomites crystals were found in limited quantities.  The couple I have here are all that I am aware of that did not find their way to the New York State Museum.  The best were up to 3 inches on edge and very similar to those from Spain.  This large vug is filled by smaller crystals to 1 cm each.  They are in excellent condition, pearly in luster, well formed and highly translucent to transparent.  The specimen is 14 x 8.5 x 9 cm and displays great.  It sits well and is open for view from any angle except the back.  $150
