Tourmaline Inclusions

Back

OKF-201    Prehnite with Tourmaline Inclusions    Bendoukou, Sandare District, Kayes Region, Mali, Africa.  This gorgeous primate is exceptionally unusual for the location.  He shows two generations of growth with the first being composed of prehnite balls to 3.5 cm each which are coated by prehnite in parallel growth, platy crystals.  Both generations are exceptionally transparent showing the needlelike inclusions of black tourmaline.  This specimen is damage free and measures 6.7 x 5.2 x 4.5 cm it sits beautifully for display.  It is mineralized and damage free at all sides.  There is minor yellow staining on the farthest back regions of the cluster.  This is an exceptional display piece with outstanding aesthetics and a very reasonable price.  $180

OKF-202

Base

OKF-202    Magnetite    Faraday Mine, Bancroft, Ontario, Canada.  Ex Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection.  This is a wonderful miniature that is near to impossible to find on today's mineral market.  To well formed octahedrons make up the primary body of the crystal.  There is a brown accessory mineral in small crystals around the perimeter of the piece.  I am unsure of what this mineral is.  The magnetite's major up to 2 cm on edge and the entire piece is 4.1 x 2.5 x 2.6 cm.  There is one corner of the magnetite which is dinged otherwise it is damage free.  An excellent specimen from a desirable location.  $95

OKF-203

Base

OKF-203    Rhodochrosite on Marcasite    Oppu Mine, Aomoriken, Honshu Prov., Japan.  Ex Nancy Collins collection.  Specimens don't get much more desirable than this one.  The piece measures 9.4 x 6.5 x 4.7 cm and is almost entirely solid pyrite.  On the pyrite are mounds of low luster pink rhodochrosite.  Much of the lower sections of the specimen, its base, are also mineralized.  One small chip a pirate is missing it is certainly not distracting to any of its views.  This piece sits in displays wonderfully.  An important piece from a desirable location.     Price on request.

OKF-204

OKF-204    Jamesonite    May’s Mine, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Ex Nancy Collins collection.  As can be seen in the photographs this jamesonite a cluster is composed of bright, acicular crystals to over 3 cm each.  The entire specimen measures 3.3 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm and there are minor quite quartz crystals within the mix.  The crystals have crude, fibrous terminations.  An excellent minerals specimen from an unusual location.  $180

Other side...still fantastic

OKF-205    Sphalerite, Quartz, Siderite and Dolomite    La Troja, San Sabashhan, Spain.  Ex Bob Borofsky collection.  This is probably the nicest combination piece from this location which I purchased from Bob.  It is a complete floater grouping which measures overrates centimeters in length 5 cm in height and is a little over 3 cm thick.  It has 100% coverage of all the fore mentioned minerals in crystals up to .8 cm in diameter.  This is a very flashy specimen due to the crisp gemmy sphalerites which are the primary mineral.  The specimen stands on edge for display.  You'd have a hard time finding the nicer piece from this location at any price.  $350

OKF-206

OKF-206    Titanite Twins on Albite and Epidote    Minas Gerias, Brazil.  A very displayable grouping of gem titanite crystals to .9 cm on edge with albites to 1.7 cm.  I'll crystals are well formed and attractive.  One titanite on the edge of the piece, near the top, is broken off.  9.5 x 5.1 x 1.7 cm.  A few of the albites are somewhat dirty looking but generally this is an attractive specimen.  $150

OKF-208

OKF-208    Stilbite on Apophyllite     Poona, India.  This exceptional display specimen sports a 8.2 cm stilbite bowtie amongst numerous terminated clear apophyllites.  Several of the apophyllites have damage but it is all on the backside of the piece.  This specimen couldn't display much better from the front or the sides.  8 x 7 x 5.1 cmThis price is a giveaway for piece with this kind of aesthetic appeal.  $55

OKF-210

OKF-210    Goshenite   Baha, Braldu Valley, Baltistan, N.A. Pakistan.  This is another specimen which I have gladly reacquired from a customer selling off some of his collection this wonderful etched specimen measures 4.5 x 2.4 by 1.8 cm.  The crystal has retained its hexagonal shape but it's surfaces entirely etched.  It is doubly terminated and stands on end for display.  Zero damage.  A highly desirable and aesthetic piece.  $345

OKF-211

OKF-211    Legrandite    Ojda Mine, Mapimi, Drango, Mexico.  Ex Nancy Collins collection.  This is an outstanding crystallized specimen of this rare mineral.  The piece is a competitive great thumbnail with three legrandite crystals which measure 1.9, 2.0, and 1 cm respectively.  A very displayable piece which is much better in person.  The crystals are beautifully formed and one stands up on end well-off the matrix.  The crystals are typical brownish yellow, translucent and a high luster.  Very clean and damage free specimen which would be a great addition to any serious thumbnail collection.  $1000

OKF-219    Smithsonite   Tsumeb, S. W. Africa.  Ex Nancy Collins collection.  Previously a Prosper Williams piece(with tag).  A perfect little dome of translucent brown smithsonite crystals to over a centimeter each.  The back of the specimen has the crystals all intergrown whereas the front displays some matrix showing through and better crystal separation.  The piece its wonderfully, has no damage, displays great luster, and is composed of large, well shaped, striated crystals.  An exceptional Tsumeb specimen.  $340

OKF-220

OKF-220    Hemimorphite   from a small unnamed prospect, Malipo, Wenshan, Yunnan Prov., China.  Ex Michael Walter collection.  This large plate of hemimorphite is well mineralized on both sides.  There is some minor staining and very minor scuff marks but overall this is a superior specimen which had been in my Chinese suite for many years.  It measures 12.1 x 9 cm and averages approximately 3 cm thick.  This piece is far better than most of the material that has come from this find over the years.  $390

OKF-221

Back

OKF-221    Rhodochrosite Casts    Stratoni, Greece.  Ex Nancy Collins collection.  The rhodochrosite crystals which make up this specimen are intergrown and in epitactic overgrowth on an unknown species of crystal.  I would assume these were originally dolomite, perhaps siderite crystals of very large size.  Maybe they were even rhodochrosites and the rhodochrosite remaining is a second generation.  Whatever the case it is made for a very displayable cabinet size specimen of an uncommon mineral from a rare location in an unusual form.  There is minor pyrite and tiny double terminated quartz crystals mixed within the specimen’s matrix.  This is simply an outstanding specimen, perhaps the best one I've ever owned from any location.  It has so many things going for it that it is almost difficult to describe.  The cast reach 4.3 cm on edge and are up to 3 cm deep.  They stand up well off the matrix which is also fully crystallized on its backside, but does not have the large rhodo casts seen on the front.  There is no damage whatsoever to the stellar piece which displays beautifully the specimen is far better in person and not as fragile as it looks.  I do not have the astronomical price which one might expect to be associated with piece of this magnitude.  He would absolutely be a five figure specimen with another dealer.  I would prefer to have it in the collection of someone who takes their rhodochrosite specimens seriously.  This somewhat rectangular shape piece measures 10.6 x 8.1 x 6 cm overall.  Give me a call and we will talk about how to get the specimen to your collection.    Price on request

OKF-222

OKF-222    Analcime, Aegirine, Natrolite, Serandite, Rhodochrosite, Byssolite   Mt. St-Hilaire, Québec Canada.  Where else besides Mt St-Hilaire can one come up with a combination of species in one specimen such as this!  This huge museum grade specimen measures 15 x 12.5 x 8 cm.  The largest crystals are 6 cm in diameter.  The piece stands on edge beautifully for display at is probably a shocker to anyone who thinks of Mt St.-Hilaire has been a location for micros only.  I won't go into detail on all the crystal species measurement’s but let's suffice to say that all are easy to find and well formed.  The piece has a medium level luster and I find no damage.  This is a museum grade specimen at a manageable collector's price.  $595

OKF-223

OKF-223    Kunzite    Mawi, Laghman Province, Afghanistan.  Here is a beautifully formed etched kunzite a significant size it measures 14.5 cm in length is 4.7 cm wide and 3 cm in thickness.  There is an enormous amount of gem rough contained within this piece.  Don't get me wrong, I do not suggest it should be converted into gemstones, but its value has to be a least equal to what would be produced if it was.  I am price that way below that.  The color is very deep and view down the c axis of the crystal and does not look washed out like many kunzites do.  It is damage free and extremely displayable.  The photographs of this specimen are much lighter that the specimen actually is.   Priced way below the standard market value at $680.

OKF-224

OKF-224    Kunzite    Kala, Darrah Province, Afghanistan.  Here is a beautifully formed tabular 14.7 cm high 4.2 cm wide and .7 cm thick. The color is very deep and view down the c axis of the crystal and a purist slightly light in color due to its being only .7 cm thick.  In reality this specimen is of excellent color, displays a wonderful primary termination and is totally re-crystallize where there was once a basal contact.  It is damage free and extremely displayable.  The piece is deeply striated and a pleasure to handle and inspect.  The photographs of this specimen are much lighter that the specimen actually is A fabulous display specimen.  $860.

Octahedron modifications

OKF-225    Fluorite    Madoc, Ontario, Canada.  Ex Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection, previously and the Dr.George Robinson collection.  This is a wonderful old times specimen with a large primary fluorite crystal measuring 7.2 cm on edge with other fluorites on massive fluorite and quartz matrix.  This piece displays beautifully and has beautiful surface features unique to fluorites from this area of Canada.  Minor brown internal inclusions (hydrocarbons?)  Can be seen clearly.  Very gemmy crystals slightly modified by octahedrons which show mixed colors internally, clear to white, green and pink.  An exceptional Canadian fluorite $1600

OKF-226

Back

OKF-226    Barite and Fluorite    Mina Jaimina, Caravia, Asturias, Spain.  Ex Bob Borofsky collection.  This wonderful large cabinet piece is coated by white barites with a liberal encrustation of gem clear fluorites, approximately 75% coverage, up 1 cm on edge each.  The specimen displays the highest of luster possible and the floor a crystals show tetrahexahedral forms.  I can find no damage on this piece which is extremely rare for this locality.  The specimen measures 12.5 cm x 11 cm x 7.5 cm and is also crystallized on approximately 40% of its back.  This is one of those rare pieces from a site which never produced many specimens in the first place and is noted for rarely producing any that are damage free.  A superb fluorite.  $1000
