Connecticut Mineral Specimens For Sale, Page 2

We have been lucky enough to acquire some of the finest examples of Connecticut minerals directly from the field collectors who have gained legal access to the active quarries as well as numerous older collections built in the 1960s through the 1990s.  If you are a serious East Coast or Connecticut collector it might be worth your while to contact us regarding better materials which we show by enquiry only.

OKJ-970    Quartz cast after Anhydrite with Calcite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.   7.1 x 5.1 x approximately a cm thick. Another large, damage free example of these important pseudomorphs.  Complete crystal coverage, including nice double terminated calcites, on one side and a completely open view of the internal replacement surface on the other.  Again, problem free examples of this material are rare due to quarry blasting.   $165

OKG-081

OKG-081    Quartz, Calcite and Hematite with psudos after Chalcopyrite?     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. 10.9 x 7 x 3.5 cm with calcites to 2.6 cm.  Another odd and very rare specimen from the find of which I've only seen a couple.  The calcites are dog tooth and reached a point in their growth when quartz crystal and hematite coated everything.  Next there was continued calcite development but it did not cover all crystal faced on the large calcites.  What remains is selective face coverage of lustrous quartz in well developed single and double terminated calcites.  One calcite has a small internal burse which can be seen in the images.  We all know this can be hid by oil but that's not for me to do, that is up to the new owner.  I can't see how this would not be scooped up quickly by anyone interested in East Coast materials.  How often can you get an attractive, interesting, unique, cabinet sized calcite for this price?  $290

OKJ-971

OKJ-971    Quartz and Calcite with Goethite pseudos after Chalcopyrite    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  9 x 5.5 x 3.3 cm overall with quartz crystals to 2.3 cm and calcites to 2 cm each.  An attractive plate of crystals with lots of luster, contrast in colors, contrast in form, and with nice damage free crystallization.   $160

OKJ972

OKK-754    Quartz and Calcite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  5.1 x 4.8 x 3 cm overall with quartz points to 2 cm.   This is among the finest, damage free, aesthetic miniatures of this material I've noticed from the find.  The burst of quartz crystals is girdled by calcites, the matrix, in perfect proportion.  Crystallized by quartz druse on backside.  A very fine example in every regard.  $175

OKJ-973

OKJ-973    Quartz cast after Apophyllite with Calcite    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  8 x 5.2 x 3.5.  The largest pseudomorph measures 3 cm wide.  Another unique specimen of which I have seen no other examples!  Not as highly aesthetic as most of the material from this material so it has a very attractive price for a unique mineral specimen.  A little calcite on bottom edge is gone but otherwise damage free.  An important specimen to someone... keep in mind this find appears to be exhausted.  $120

OKJ-975

OKJ-975    Quartz and Calcite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  72 x 5.5 x 2 cm with quartz crystals to 2.1 cm.  A fine, damage free example of this aesthetic material.  No issues except positive ones.  Like most of these specimens this is also better in hand.  $95

OKJ-976

OKK-754    Quartz and Calcite with Chalcopyrite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  6.2 x 4.5 x 2. cm with quartz crystals to 1.5 cm.  A cute, specimen with the typical look.  A rather large chalcopyrite replaced by goethite.  It is chipped on the backside... no other damage.   $45

OKG-123

OKG-123    Calcite and Quartz Stalactite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  9.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm.  Largest calcites are to 2.5 cm.  A fine large, low luster stalactite.  A few cleaved crystals but overall not in bad condition.  Big calcites have a yellowish green tint and moderate luster.  Interesting and priced to go.  Temporarily mounted on an acrylic  plate with hot glue.  $195

OKJ-966

OKJ-966    Quartz cast after Anhydrite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  6.5 x 4.3 x 2.5 cm.  Several plates or layers of flat anhydrite crystals have had overgrowths of quartz forming an interesting array.  Larger calcites are present but obscured from ideal view between crystal casts.  Large!  Minor breakage on top of one crystal cast and some chips on back.  Overall good quality but not spotless (nor expensive for one of these as a result).  $150

OKG-639

OKG-639    Quartz and Prehnite on Calcite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  4.6 x 3.4 x 2 cm with quartz to 1.5 cm.  Although small this fine example has quality examples of the species desired from this find.  A couple very tiny calcites show small cleaves but these are not noticeable without magnification and the piece displays as damage free.   Excellent miniature which is far better in hand showing a nicer, bright luster.  $60

OKG-168

OKG-168      Quartz and Hematite    Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  6.4 x 5 x 3 cm with quartz to 1 cm each.  A wonderful example of the uncommon quartz form (beta form) from this location.  Only one crystal broken on the very edge of the piece so most would describe this as damage free... rather tough to break specimens free from their matrix without having the edges showing damage!  Nice hematite balls that add contrasts in shape and color.  A very fine and desirable East Coast specimen.  $165

RAI-005

Bottom

RAI-005     Quartz on Calcite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  An aesthetic small cabinet specimen measuring 7.7 x 7.5 x 4 cm.  The piece is a perfect dome of calcite which is coated on one edge/ side by fabulous, glassy quartz crystals to 2.4 cm each.  One spot may be damage to a small crystal but I canít really tell even with 10x, so I will describe this as a damage free piece (I think it is internal cracking within a crystal which I am noticing).  Iím being way over critical but so few specimens from this active quarry are damage free that I just donít expect to see such clean specimen like this one.  350$

OKK-982

OKK-982    Quartz     Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection, prev. George and Marion Springs.  Fully gem smoky quartz crystal measuring 2.4 x .8 x .7 cm.  What makes this piece very interesting are the extra terminal faces.  I assume it is twinned but under which law I am unaware.  No damage, very attractive.  $75

OKJ-879

OKJ-879     Prehnite     East Granby, Connecticut.  Ex Paul and Dawn Dunning Collection.  Attractive light green, old timer for this quarry, with minor white calcite.  No damage and mounted in a perky box.  Great form.  3.4 x 2.5 x 1 cm.  Nice.  $35

OKJ-634

OKJ-634    Heulandite on Quartz cast after ?     Hartford, Connecticut.  Likely a cast after laumontite.  Ex. Paul and Dawne Dunning collection.  An attractive, single, blocky cast of quartz after anhydrite with a well formed heulandite attached to one side of it's termination.  3.5 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm.  A fine TN specimen for the east coast collector.  Mounted in a perky box.  No damage.  $80

OKJ-570

OKJ-570    Chalcocite    Bristol Copper Mine, Bristol, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection, prev. Univ. of Rochester College collection.  This is certainly a classic east coast locality with no rivals for this rare species except those from Wisconsin.  Specimens from this locale are one of the true cornerstones of any respectable east coast site.  This piece has a fantastic classic look due to its even, steel gray patina.  A large TN specimen measuring 2.9 x 2.4 x 1.5 cm.  Sharply crystallized in all areas. Excellent provenance.  There are several spots showing damage so the price is deeply discounted.  In pristine condition this piece would be well out of the reach of most collectors.  These things have become as rare as ďhens teethĒ and are mineralogically important (ref. Rocks and Minerals, 11: 37 and the Mineralogical Record, 32, 433).  An exceptionally fine, rare and desirable specimen for the discriminating thumbnail collector.  625$

OKH-364    Quartz, Calcite and Stipnomeline on Quartz casts after Anhydrite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  An aesthetic small cabinet specimen measuring 8 x 5.4 x 3 cm.  Lots going on in the paragenesis of this specimen.  Casts are visible from base while the top view shows calcites to 2 cm each with quartz crystals.  Stipnomeline fills in between some of the primary crystals.  Breakage to one big calcite on edge from specimen extraction (as would be expected), otherwise clean.  85$

OKH-365    Calcite on Quartz casts after Anhydrite     Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut.  An aesthetic miniature measuring 4.2 x 3 x 1.9 cm.  There are two nicely formed, double terminated calcites on the surface of the cast, to 1.9 cm each.  Backside of piece is totally open and better shows the extent of the mineral replacement that will make this type of cast from Roncari a modern day classic.  These seem to be the most desired specimens from this new find.  This one is an excellent example.  80$
