OKI-739 Cerussite Twins on Malachite after Azurite Tsumcorp Mine, Tsumeb, Otikoyo Region, Namibia, Africa. Ex. Nancy Collins Collection circ. 1970. This fine specimen measures 8 x 7.2 x 4.5 cm overall and is composed of numerous twinned and untwined cerussites on a lush carpet of forest green malachite pseudomorphs after azurite. The malachite pseudo are present in two generations: the first generation crystals are large, to 2.7 cm each, and followed by the second generation, much smaller, deeper green pseudos which coat about 30% of the surfaces of the first generation crystals. On this matrix can be found 2 fine clusters of twinned cerussites to 1.8 cm each and one lonely untwined crystal. They all stand off the malachite in high relief. The cerussites are very translucent and have a waxy to silky luster. There is no damage to the primary display face although some of the edge contacts are visible from the front yet not distracting. The backside has some mineralization ,as well. The specimens of malachite after azurite from this mine are known world over as classics. I’ve sold and seen many dozens of these malachites after azurite, but the several of these I now have for sale are the only ones I’ve known of in combination with the cerussites. Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. Very rare and desirable. $3,500

OKI-740 Cerussite Twins on Malachite after Azurite Tsumcorp Mine, Tsumeb, Otikoyo Region, Namibia, Africa. Ex. Nancy Collins Collection circ. 1970. This fine specimen measures 6.5 x 6 x 4.8 cm overall and is composed of numerous twinned and untwined cerussites on a lush carpet of forest green malachite pseudomorphs after azurite. The largest twin is 1.7 cm on edge. The malachite pseudo are present in two generations: the first generation crystals are large, followed by the second generation, much smaller, deeper green pseudos which coat some of the surfaces of the first generation crystals. On this matrix there is a large centrally placed twin with good symmetry and luster. In addition are several small reticulated twins on the periphery. They all stand off the malachite in high relief. The cerussites are very translucent and have a waxy to silky luster. There is no damage to the primary display face although some of the edge contacts are visible on the sides of the piece. The backside has some mineralization, as well. The specimens of malachite after azurite from this mine are known world over as classics. I’ve sold and seen many dozens of these malachites after azurite, but the several of these I now have for sale are the only ones I’ve known of in combination with the cerussites. Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. Rare and desirable. $2,200
The following specimens from Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut are the ones discussed in Joe Polityka's recent Springfield Show review in The Mineralogical Record, Nov.- Dec. 2010, p. 547. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed photographing and describing them.

RAI-006 Calcite and Quartz Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. This specimen is a plate of interesting calcites with selective face hematite coatings and a few hematite coated quartz crystals. It measures 9.5 x 6 and is approximately 3 cm thick. A crystal on the edge of the piece is damaged otherwise very nice. 175$

RAI-007 Quartz on Calcite Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. An aesthetic small cabinet specimen measuring 8.5 x 5.6 x 5 cm. The piece is a perfect dome of several intergrown calcite balls which have fabulous, glassy, single and double terminated quartz crystals scattered about its surface. This is truly an exceptional specimen for this quarry and it deserves serious attention. It is sculptural and views fine from most any side. I can only find one small quartz crystal missing on a lower edge which is only noticeable when viewed from that one side. Very choice for anyone who likes calcite, quartz or East Coast specimens. If I were purchasing one of these, it would likely be this one. 425$

RAI-008 Quartz on Calcite Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. An aesthetic specimen measuring 9 x 7 x 5 cm. The specimen a mix of small calcites and fabulous, larger, glassy, single and double terminated quartz crystals to 3 cm each. Tiny hematite balls give the quartz crystals wonderful definition so they don’t all blend together as do so many complex, glassy, quartz specimens. This is truly an exceptional specimen for this quarry and is unlikely to be here for very long. Damage free and views well from several positions. 450$

RAI-009 Quartz on Calcite Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. An aesthetic small cabinet specimen measuring 6.6 x 6.1 x 4 cm. The piece is a dome of calcite which have fabulous, glassy, single and double terminated quartz crystals scattered about its surface as well as rather large calcites. A quartz point is missing in the back and a calcite on very edge has a cleave, so not perfect but shows nice views in most cases and better than most from this rare find. 180$

RAI-011 Quartz on Calcite with Quartz casts after Anhydrite Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. This big, flashy specimen measures 10 x 9 x 6.2 cm. Mixed in with the quartz are several small, thin plates of small quartz crystals which are actually pseudomorphs after anhydrite crystals. There are probably four or five quartz points missing which has greatly reduced what would have been the price of this specimen. There are lots of pics here for you to determine if it is worthy of purchase….I wouldn’t have wasted my time here if I didn’t believe it was. 220$

RAI-012 Quartz on Calcite Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. An aesthetic small cabinet specimen measuring 7.5 x 5.3 x 5 cm. The piece has a perfect dome of clear, beta-form quartz crystal sitting up high off a bed of white calcite crystals. This is almost what I would describe as stalactitic. The quartz are to 1 cm on edge and the piece is in fine condition. This form of quartz is not very common at Roncari. This is a great example of this style of crystallization. 175$

RAI-013 Quartz and Calcite Roncari Quarry (Tilcon Quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut. An aesthetic small cabinet specimen measuring 7.5 x 5.5 x 4 cm. This is a rather unusual specimen with a thick coating of “Herkimer diamond” style quartz crystals covering one undulating side of the piece. There are lots of tiny hematite balls in reds and browns as inclusions and on both the quartz and calcites. The calcites are double terminated and to 2 cm each. They have frosted surfaces which may be quartz overgrowths and stand out quite nicely from the quartz. No damage. 150$

OKH-395 Talc pseudo. after Scapolite on Hematite pseudo. after Magnetite Moab, Grant Co., Utah. Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection. This is one of the most unusual TN specimens I’ve ever offered. It is composed of an unknown species of scapolite crystal of outstanding form that has been replaced by talc. It is pure black and has an amazing luster for a talc pseudomorph. When you handle it you would swear it was a small chunk of black soap. The crystal sits smartly on a matrix of hematite after magnetite. Some contact to back but really a damage free piece with fine aesthetics. I have never seen one of these before and I am very impressed… so what if it is black. Far better in hand. It is simply an amazing piece which I am sure will be appreciated by someone. 395$

OKH-401 Quartz pseudomorphs after Mica Powers Farm, Pierrepont, New York. Collected by Michael Walter, summer 2009. These specimens represent a one time find for the locale and the only known examples of this strange mineral substitution. The replacement occurred after the book of mica began to expand and as a result each plate of the mica is now a solid sliver of gray quartz. Not attractive by any means but so unusual it commands attention (ref Rochester Mineralogical Symposium technical session, 2009). Only a handful of these have been offered for sale and there are not going to be any more found from all current indications. This on is composed of two books and measures in total, 3 x 2 x 1.1 cm. Small base contact and no damage. 50$

OKH-402 Diopside with Titanite and Albite (var. Antiperthite) Rose Road Wollastonite Occurrence, Pitcairn, New York. Collected by Michael Walter, summer 2006. This is a rare offering because specimens from St. Lawrence County that are this nice are almost always added to my own collection. I, however, already have several great TN specimens from this locale and do not gravitate toward this size of specimen in the first place. So, this will be an opportunity for someone to add one of the best TN specimens ever found from this interesting site into their own collection. The specimen is a floater with no attachments of damage of any kind. It measures 3.5 x 2.1 x 2 cm overall and is dominated by a single deep green, double terminated diopside of outstanding form and the highest of luster. Attached to it are several small white albites and on the primary display face a rich brown, fully terminated, glossy titanite crystal. There is minor calcite attached to the backside. The piece was found in the Lunch Break Pocket, described in my book and, again, is one of the finest TN specimens recovered from the site in its 100+++ year history. It was naturally weathered from within massive calcite and was found loose in the opening. 220$

OKI-671 Fluorite and Sphalerite Excavation for Feeder Canal, Queenston-Chippewa Power Plant, (Montrose Rock Dump), Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain collection, Harry Maines Collector, 1984. This excavation into the Lockport Dolostone resulted in a small number of fine specimens being produced in the mid-1980s. Until now, I have never seen one for sale. Field collectors tended to keep all their finds. With the latest purchase from Steve’s collection nine of these specimens came into my possession. With the exception of the unique calcites the material is almost indistinguishable from the specimens from the Penfield and Walworth quarries (also, in the Lockport formation). To say this material is rare is the understatement of the decade! This specimen is a cabinet sized piece measuring 8 x 6.5 x 6.3 cm. It is half of a small vug with several clear fluorites, to 1.2 cm each, clustered together on one edge. Numerous other very tiny fluorites and gemmy sphalerites dot other areas of the opening as well. There are some minor hydrocarbon coatings, which of course, could be removed easily. The piece sits upright on a sawn base. The back is sawn off, too. Great views from front and side. Crystals are damage free and easy to view. Small vug with fluorites also on one side of this specimen. Very nice piece. 195$
