April 2015 Update, Page 3

Fluorite collectors beware!  This page includes some of the most unique and attractive fluorites I've seen from China in years... both very old and brand new.

OKL-880

Phantoms and enhydros...

Note the phantoms and enhydros

OKL-880      Fluorite and Pyrite     Xianghhhuapu Mine, Xianghauling, Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.  This is new material from the locality that is quite different from previous fluorites and likely amongst the finest and most interesting fluorite to come out of China in quite some time.  This example has fine clarity, nice colors and is very high in luster.  The composition is green octahedrons with cube modified faces coated by really strange cubes.  They show greater face development and no edge growth in their final stages of formation.  Some edges show unusual modifications (tetrahexahedral?).  Some edges show overgrowth extending beyond the cube.  In a prismatic crystal we'd call these scepters!  Have yet to see this feature in any fluorites from China.  Attractive blue face selective phantoms.  And then there are the enhydros with large gas bubbles in them...  strange stuff!  A fine quality specimen measuring 8.1 x 6.5 x 3.6 cm with cubes to 1.6 cm on edge.  Some saw trimming on back.  Damage free and amazingly unique specimen!  $350

OKL-879     Fluorite and Calcite     Xianghhhuapu Mine, Xianghauling, Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.  This is new material from the locality that is quite different from previous fluorites and likely amongst the finest and most interesting fluorite to come out of China in quite some time.  This example has cubes to 2.7 cm on edge each and is 9 x 7.9 x 3.8 cm in size.  Some cubes are modified by octahedrons and those octahedral surfaces are covered by cube overgrowths.  Very strange.  Something I have not seen from any Chinese material in the past.  Minor calcite on front and heavy coverahe on back.  There is minor micro chipping in a couple of spots so I've really knocked down the price on this interesting piece.  Very displayable Stands on edge.  $150

OKL-881

Nice phantoms

Very strange edge overgrowths

OKL-881     Fluorite and Calcite     Xianghhhuapu Mine, Xianghauling, Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.  This is new material from the locality that is quite different from previous fluorites and likely amongst the finest and most interesting fluorite to come out of China in quite some time.  This example has fine clarity, nice colors and is very high in luster except for the centers of cube faces some of which have a frosted appearance.  The composition is 100% cubes.  They show greater face development and no edge growth in their final stages of formation.  Some edges show unusual modifications (tetrahexahedral?).  Some edges show overgrowth extending well beyond the cube.  These are very noticeable and interesting.  In a prismatic crystal we'd call these scepters!  Have yet to see this feature in any fluorites from China.  Attractive blue face selective phantoms.  A fine quality specimen measuring 9.8 x 7.5 x 5 cm with cubes to 3.1 cm on edge.  There is minor chipping in several spots so the price reflects this.  Still a fine piece!  $300

OKL-882

OKL-882     Fluorite with Calcite   Xianhauling, Hunan, Province, China.  This is very old Chinese material, some of the first fluorites to come out of the country.  The octahedrons seen here are well formed and up to 2.5 cm on edge each.  The crystals are slightly modified by cubes but all theirs surfaces show final growth by tiny lustrous cube faces.  This gives the crystals a frosted yet sparkly appearance (the luster is better than the images indicate).  These are a light green with light blue cores.  The calcites are disks to 2.4 cm, they are clear to milky and everything is in perfect condition!  These are exceedingly difficult to find especially damage free (early on they did not take good care of the minerals coming out of China).  This one is perfect!  9.8 x 7.4 x 4.7 cm piece.  Some saw trimming on back.  Very high quality!  $575

OKL-884      Fluorite on Muscovite      Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Province, China.  Clear cubic crystals to 1.5 cm on edge with purple cores and minor muscovite flakes as inclusions.  Very high luster fluorites on beds of muscovite make for an aesthetic piece.  It measures 6.6 x 5.2 x 3.6 cm overall.  A floater with no damage except a very tiny corner ding on one fluorite cube on the BACK of the specimen.  A great example of material that is becoming difficult to find any longer.  $195

OKL-885

Phantoms, enhydros and cubes on octahedra

OKL-885     Fluorite, Pyrite, Dolomite     Xianghhhuapu Mine, Xianghauling, Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.  This is new material from the locality that is quite different from previous fluorites and likely amongst the finest and most interesting fluorite to come out of China in quite some time.  This example has fine clarity, nice colors and is very high in luster.  The cubes are attractive, transparent and on nice green octahedrons.  Some edges show unusual modifications (tetrahexahedral?).  Attractive blue face selective phantoms.  And then there are the enhydros with large gas bubbles in them...  strange stuff!  A fine quality specimen measuring 14.5 x 10 x 4.4 cm with cubes to 1.3 cm on edge.  Beautiful dabs of pyrite as inclusions and on the surface of the specimen.  No damage at all and of the highest luster and quality.  An amazingly unique specimen with an attractive price given its uniqueness.    $425

OKL-886

OKL-886    Azurite and Malachite   Liufenggshan Mine, Anquing-Guichi District, Chizhou Prefecture, Anhui Province, China.  Very high luster deep blue crystals on malachite and malachite pseudos after azurite.  .3 x 3 x 2.1 cm overall with azurite crystals to .8 cm maximum.  Matrix appears to be botryoidal hematite.  A large area of contact on one side of malachite.  Good representative piece.  $150

OKL-887

OKL-887     Fluorite    Xianhauling, Hunan, Province, China.  This is very old Chinese material, some of the first fluorites to come out of the country.  The octahedrons seen here are well formed and up to 4.1 cm on edge each.  The crystals are slightly modified by cubes and most of theirs surfaces show final growth by tiny lustrous cube faces as a thin secondary overgrowth that can be clearly seen in the images.  This gives the crystals a frosted yet sparkly appearance.  These are exceedingly difficult to find especially damage free (early on they did not take good care of the minerals coming out of China) as this one is.  8 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm piece.  Some very minor saw trimming on back.  Very high quality!  $275

OKL-888

OKL-887     Fluorite    Xianhauling, Hunan, Province, China.  This is very old Chinese material, some of the first fluorites to come out of the country.  The octahedrons seen here are well formed to over 5 cm on edge each.  The crystals are slightly modified by cubes and most of theirs surfaces show final growth by tiny lustrous cube faces as a thin secondary overgrowth that can be clearly seen in the images.  What isn't clear is that this fine example is very transparent were it not for the surface modifications.  The luster is also very good for this type of specimen.  These are exceedingly difficult to find especially damage free (early on they did not take good care of the minerals coming out of China) as this one is.  9.7 x 7.5 x 5.5 cm floater with healed back and base.  One small edge contact from other large crystals.  A great example.   $300

OKL-889

Strange edges on these cubes!

OKL-889     Fluorite and Pyrite     Xianghhhuapu Mine, Xianghauling, Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.  This example id composed of totally transparent green cubes with edges unlike any I have ever seen on fluorite.  they are beveled (dodecahedral modifications) and also hoppered.  The last couple of close-up images show this development well.  The transparency is more dramatic in person and the luster immensely better.  Only some edge contacts.  Damage free and aesthetic.  8.5 x 7.2 x 2.2 cm overall with cubes to over 2 cm on edge. A really nice fluorite! $295
