OKI-724 Scheelite and Quartz near Hu Ya, Xue Bao Diang Mountains, Ping Wu, Sichuan Prov., China. A 6.5 x 5.5 x 5.3 cm grouping of several large scheelites with numerous water clear quartz crystals on their surfaces. The scheelites vary in translucence with a few areas appearing gemmy. The octahedrons are unusually steep and the luster is good. There is a ding to the front central octahedron but it is not distracting given that it is in a poor position. Base and back have matrix contact. Sits and displays nicely. A nice example of what have to be viewed as the worlds best scheelites. 280$

OKI-727 Azurite and Malachite Liufengshan Mine, Guichi District, Chizhou, Auhui Prov., China. Literally tons of azurite and malachite have been shipped from China to collectors here in the states. The azurite “balls” are certainly spectacular but the rest is normally lacking in most regards. This specimen is an exception! Supper high luster and nice crystal form make it a real Bisbee look a like. The azurite crystals sit together in a cluster within the malachite in an aesthetic display. They are to over a cm each, translucent and of fine luster. Measuring in at 7.4 x 6 x 4 cm, this small cabinet piece is a real looker. Minor mineralization on back of specimen, as well. A couple edge crystals looked to have had contacts but appear to be etched or regrown so I would have to describe this specimen as damage free. Totally outstanding for a Chinese azurite. 950$

OKI-728 Quartz Scepter Palermo Mine, North Groton, New Hampshire. Ex. Ernie and Vera Schlichter Collection. This famous field collector (Ernie S.) probably collected this fine example himself. New England specimens from this famous mine are rare, and scepters of quartz especially so. The specimen measures 4.4 x 3.1 x 3 cm and is composed of a milky stem capped by a double terminated cap. The cap is clear and slightly smoky. The stem is also terminated. Minor wax on stem from mounting. Aesthetic and rare. 385$

OKI-730 Quartz RESERVED Kidder Lane, Southborough, Massachusetts. Ex. Ernie and Vera Schlichter Collection. A fine New England quartz specimen measuring 6.3 x 5.7 x 4 cm. The quartz crystals on the top are largest, to 1.3 cm each, and have wisps of purple throughout. The quartz are well formed and high in luster. There is no damage and the piece displays very nicely. There is a small wedge of Styrofoam mounted on the back to assist the specimen in standing up. I’ve left it in place as it doesn’t show and does prop the specimen up nicely. An uncommon locality specimen in superb condition and form. 350$

OKI-731 Almandine Pearl Lake, New Hampshire. Ex. Ernie and Vera Schlichter Collection. Another fine New England specimen seldom seen on today’s market. This miniature measuring 3.6 x 3.2 x 3.1 cm is composed of numerous well formed garnets to 1.3 cm each in mica schist. Most stand out of the matrix nicely and are in good condition. One tiny ding and one partial crystal. Outstanding condition for crystals broken out of a solid matrix. Deep red color and minor translucence. Sawed base. A very fine and rare piece. 145$

OKI-732 Magnetite Brookline, New Hampshire. Ex. Ernie and Vera Schlichter Collection. An excellent miniature…the first I’ve ever seen in matrix. This classic New England specimen is a large single crystal which is not really complete…some edges are missing…but overall in good condition. The crystal is big measuring 2.2 cm on edge and is locked in matrix. Overall the specimen measures 4 x 3.2 x 2.5 cm. The crystal is of nice luster and has the stepped surface features expected of magnetites from this locale. Very nice. 190$

OKI-709 Calcite De Chang Mine, Sichuan Prov., China. This year, 2010, I was able to find 3 of these specimens in aesthetic, undamaged examples. They are obviously stalactitic formations of yellowish, cream colored calcites in magnificent groupings. The form is amazing and the luster the highest I have seen for specimens from this locale. This one is composed of spiky crystals to 3.5 cm each. There is only one small crystal contact on one end so this specimen takes on the appearance of a floater. 10.5 x 4 x 4 cm. Zero damage! Really nice piece. 90$

OKI-733 Vanadinite Upper Moulouya District, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Milbaden, Kkenifra Prov., Morocco, Africa. This is the nicest piece I found at Tucson this year. Quite uncommon to find these top grade crystals on the darker matrix. Together this makes this what I consider a specimen of the highest aesthetics. Some might say the lighter colored barite matrix is more aesthetic but I will let the specimen pics speak for themselves. The crystals on this fine piece are up to 1.2 cm in diameter. Exceptionally high luster. They are the brightest red you can find for this species from anywhere and they are translucent to gemmy. The highest quality I have ever seen. The piece is 6.4 x 4 x 2.7 cm. Zero damage. Largest crystals are perfectly positioned high on the piece and just to the right of center. They really draw your eye to them. Well worth the investment if you look for top quality examples in your collection. 850$

OKI-734 Vanadinite and Barite Upper Moulouya District, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Milbaden, Kkenifra Prov., Morocco, Africa. This piece has cherry red vanadinites to 1 cm each (most are smaller) all over white blades of barite. The crystals sit up lightly, high up off the matrix. The specimen measures 8 x 4.8 x 3.8 cm overall. No damage to the vanadinites but a view blades of barite are clipped (it should probably sit on this side anyways). The specimen only has contact on one edge so it displays well from almost any direction. Very attractive, bright, colorful and aesthetic specimen. 275$

This piece is spotless! No damage which on a specimen this large is nothing short of a miracle. I thought I was going to go blind trying to find one of these big specimen without damage. The color is red with a slight brownish cast. Very attractive and what a thrill to see hundreds and hundreds of crystals and no damage what-so-ever. Great piece. 650$

OKI-737 Vanadinite Upper Moulouya District, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Milbaden, Kkenifra Prov., Morocco, Africa. An impressive piece composed of big thick crystals to 1.5 cm in diameter, the best of which sit up high on the specimen. The crystals are a rich red color and very translucent and gemmy in areas. Front face is a killer…the back is cool too but totally coated with brown accessory. One tiny missing crystal and rub on top of piece (not visible in frontal view). Given the overall quality this minor issue is of little note. It is an exceptional piece with the qualities which everyone seems to want: bright luster, fantastic form, great crystal balance and very clean. Tough to find them this nice for less than 1,000$ This one is 950$

OKI-630 Acanthite pseudomorphs after Argentite Mina del las Rayas, Guanajuato, Mexico. Ex. Dr. Steve Chamberlain Collection. This is a special piece for the TN collector who seems to have everything else. It is the finest of these which I have seen as far as aesthetics go. Larger crystals can be found and certainly larger prices (mid four figures) but this one has the looks, sharp crystal form and luster which most collectors desire more than crystal size alone. It measures 2.5 x 1.5 x 1 cm and is somewhat three dimensional. It branches out in a sweeping display with the larger crystals (to .8 cm each) on its upper sections. There is no damage to this floater. There was once contact with what may have been calcite crystals on its backside. The contact has a thin layer of what appears to be pyrite now forming casts which would have extended over the missing mineral’s crystals. A truly fine example, and competition grade TN, of material which is usually nearly globular in shape and far lower in luster. 1,500$

OKI-721 Bournonite Yaogangxian Mine, Biai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. Seen here is a fine single crystal which is deeply striated and of nice luster. The specimen is a floater which has two chips: one on the base which it stands on and a smaller one on a lower edge of the piece. Not very noticeable at all. The piece measures 2.6 x 1.8 x 1.6 cm overall. A fine displayable TN which looks bigger in person. Sits up nicely for display. 95$

OKI-720 Bournonite Yaogangxian Mine, Biai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. Here is a fine cluster of double terminated crystals to 2.3 cm each. They are striated crystals which are locked together in a jumble which branches out in all directions. There is one termination that is chipped, otherwise a clean piece. The terminations are mostly fibrous. An excellent quality piece. 150$

OKI-722 Bournonite Yaogangxian Mine, Biai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. This specimen is a beautiful piece composed of a pair of blocky, double terminated crystals which interlock forming an appealing TN specimen measuring 2.2 x 2 x 1.3 cm. The crystals measure 2.2 and 1.8 cm each. The prism faces range from mirror smooth to somewhat fibrous on their surfaces. The terminations are similar. The piece stands and displays several different ways. Nice luster and ZERO damage. It is unusual to find a floater this clean from this noteworthy locality. Impressive! 295$

OKI-723 Bournonite and Chalcopyrite Yaogangxian Mine, Biai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. This floater has no damage and is certainly exceptional for this fact….but there is so much more to offer her. The piece is composed of double terminated crystals to 2 cm each which are high in luster and nicely striated. 3 x 2 x 1.5 cm overall. The terminations are clean and the other unusual thing about this piece is the sulfide accessory. This is a 1 cm crystal of darker color and metallic luster which appears to be chalcopyrite. I won’t swear to this however since about every sulfide known to man seems to come from this prolific mine. In any case, it is an aesthetic piece of note at a very reasonable price for what it is…295$
