Chinese Apatite Specimens
Fluorapatite crystals are occasionally found from China in collector quality specimens.

OKI-239 Fluorapatite Yaogangxian Mine, Hunan Prov., China. A recent find (2008) from the mine which has probably produced more fine mineral specimens that any other in China. Fluorapatites were never a common mineral here and this one is exceptional in all regards. Although it might appear to n be numerous parallel growth crystals I believe it is a single crystal. The specimen is high in luster, deeply striated and double terminated. It is a damage free floater measuring 3.7 x 2.8 x 2 cm and it fits nicely in a TN perky box. It is highly translucent and has a range of colors from clear to light green but is dominated by a light pink coloration. A fine displayable specimen which views nicely from all directions. The images do not do a good job of showing how fine this specimen is. 85$

The specimen is high in luster, deeply striated and double terminated. It is measures 3.2 x 1.8 x 1.6 cm and it fits nicely in a TN perky box. It is highly translucent and has a range of colors from clear to light green but is dominated by a light pink coloration. There are lots on brassy marchasite needles as inclusions and coatings as well as minor white quartz. This floater has only a tiny contact (maybe chip) on base which is only visible with magnification. Displays as damage free. A fine displayable specimen which views nicely from all directions. The images do not do a good job of showing how fine this specimen is. 75$

OKI-226 Fluorapatite on Quartz Yaogangxian Mine, Yihang County, Chenzhau Prefecture, Hunan Prov., China. Several fine fluorapatites to 1.5 cm are gracing the side of two clear quartz points. The terminations of the apatites are clean and gemmy and the prisms are included, translucent and slightly frosted in some cases. The front/ side view is great and other views okay. There is no damage to the piece. The specimen measures 4.4 x 3 x 2 cm. A nice piece and certainly not a common species for this prolific mine. 60$
