Herkimer Diamond Scepters Treasure Mountain, Little Falls, NY.   Three summers of field collecting Herkimer diamond scepters allowed me access to some of the best specimens to ever be found at Treasure Mountain. Having spent those summers swinging a 20 pound sledge hammer has brought me to the reality of how rare these pieces are.  To say these specimens are rare is an understatement.  We have recovered approximately 2,200 pockets in our professional work and less than 20 had scepters within them.  Only two of those pockets had exceptional specimens.

Rocks and Minerals Magazine did a great job of showing us some very nice specimens.  If you or someone you know are in the market for a rare and attractive piece, one of these could be the best investments you ever make.  They are expensive for their size but they are impressive when seen in person.  Great examples from this locale are almost never available for purchase due to their rarity.  My photography will not do justice to any of these fine pieces.

Check out other sites or dealers that carry Herkimer Diamond Scepters (there are only a couple) and you will find the largest selection here.  Please keep in mind that just because we have a healthy number of these specimens to offer, it doesn't mean that we, or for that matter anyone, has great numbers of these.  I have spent years intensively searching out specimens.  They have been acquired mostly from my contacts with other field collectors, commercial purchases from the Treasure Mountain operation when they were mining, and some have been purchased from private collections.  This site has now been closed to the public for several years and there is no indication that it will be opening in the future.   Don't forget to check out the  Article  on this site published in Rock and Gem Magazine.  Also, a Field Collecting Review can be found on this site which overviews our collecting efforts.

OKD-783

OKD-783    Herkimer Diamond Scepter   Treasure Mountain Mine, Little Falls, New York.  This specimen is a fine scepter cluster with very clear caps and fine black stems which are now encased internally.  It measures 4.5 cm.  The piece is a damage free floater with great aesthetics.  Very minor, almost unnoticeable, skeletal development to a couple of faces.  A fine piece.  480$

OKD-784

OKD-784    Herkimer Diamond Dumbbell Scepter   Treasure Mountain Mine, Little Falls, New York.  This is a one of a kind specimen….it is a dumbbell which I repaired under the guidance of mine manager, Chris Phetteplace.  He found this in a pocket but was unable to keep it assembled.  When you see it you will understand why.  It has a piece of anthraxolite in between the two parts of the crystal which separated the two halves entirely.  The caps and riders are very clear yet highly skeletal.  The stem is deep black and very well exposed for over 3 cm in the base.  It measures 6.5 cm overall and is damage free.  Please note:  I will not mail this specimen!  It must be picked up form me in person at a show or here at my home.  I do not trust this one to be handled by the Postal Service.  It is stable but would be impossible to repair if damaged.    A great and unusual specimen.  625$

OKD-809

OKD-809    Herkimer Diamond Scepter   Treasure Mountain Mine, Little Falls, New York.  This huge scepter is impressive but has several minor issues.  Most are noticeable with magnification and not distracting to the eye…one small blowout, a tiny tip ding and a small chip where there was once another crystal penetrating the large cap.  All this considered this is still a major piece with lots of great qualities…7.5 cm in length, interesting skeletal form and so on.  The specimen would command 1,000$ without the minor issues.  As is I’ll accept   325$

OKD-813

OKD-813    Herkimer Diamond Scepter   Treasure Mountain Mine, Little Falls, New York.  This large piece is a highly atypical Herk scepter.  It is highly skeletal and rather tabular.  The stem is obvious and deep black.  This piece is a floater with no damage except for a tiny tip ding which will be noticed under close inspection.  The main crystal looks like a highly overgrown rider.  The piece measures 5.8 x 4.8 x 2.5 cm.  A great piece!  500$

OKD-814

OKD-814    Herkimer Diamond Scepter   Treasure Mountain Mine, Little Falls, New York.  Another floater which is double terminated and classic in form.  Tiny tip ding but otherwise fine.  Unusual how the cap tapers down to the base.  4.5 cm in length.  200$

OKD-818

OKD-818    Herkimer Diamond Scepter   Treasure Mountain Mine, Little Falls, New York.  A nicely formed piece with moderate skeletal form.  There is basil contact from matrix but no damage.  A branching stem at this contact is only about 50% present.  A fine display specimen.  This one measures 3.9 cm.  300$
