February II, 2013 Update

Michael R. Walter Collection, New York State Mineral Specimens

I went to specializing in St. Lawrence County, New York minerals approximately three years ago.  As a result I am beginning to dissolve my New York State collection, a few specimens at a time in each week's mineral update.  These are not specimens I am calling part of "my collection" in order to give them some form of significance, these are cataloged specimens in my collection that have been with me, generally for ten or more years.  Many are self collected or purchased directly from the miner/ field collector.  Almost all are of very good quality or represent an unusual species, crystal form, or some other characteristic making them important to the suite of specimens (based on locality) from where they came. Much of the material I sell here will be from closed but well documented  locations.

OKK-655

Back or bottom

OKK-655    Calcite on Dolomite      Penfield Quarry, Penfield, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State collection.  Prev. Ernie and Vera Schlichter collection.   This is the nicest example of this common mineral that I have seen from Penfield.  The bowl shaped piece has buff colored translucent crystals to 1 cm on edge with small similar colored calcite crystals coating some areas of them.  The specimen more three dimensional than it appears even having stalactite like stacks of dolomite.  8.5 x 5.5 x 4.3 cm overall.  Back side is well crystallized too.  $190

OKK-585

OKK-585     Quartz Scepters      Treasure Mountain Mine, Fall Hill, Little Falls, New York.  Ex. Michael Walter New York State Collection.  This is a 22 x17 cm Richer mount box with 35 nice scepters from 1.2 to 4 cm each.  They are all very nice with little to no damage.  I'd say almost all are pristine, damage free.  Lots of diversity in the grouping.  I will not split up the group.  $875

OKJ-699

OKJ-699    Calcite with Stibnite    Guang Xi, Hunan Prov., China.  Ex. Michael Walter collection. This is the older material which put stibnite/ calcite combinations on the mineralogistís radar.   I seldom see them available anymore so this is an opportunity for someone to get a has been specimen.  It measures 9.2 x 7.2 x 6.5 cm.  This is an extremely complex piece being composed of matrix rock, stibnite crystals and sprays of crystals and the single, double terminated calcite crystal which dominates the specimen.  It is moderately gemmy in areas showing of the internal stibnites and fracturing.  A quality damage free specimen with a 1980's price.  This is the one I chose for my own collection back in the day when there were a few of these floating around.  There were never many!  Here is your chance to own one of these fine specimen instead of just seeing pictures of them in books and journals.  Certainly modern day classic material.    450$

The piece has the appearance of a very fine Alaskan epidote.  $200
