Chinese Quartz Specimens

Fine quartz from China has been taken for granted. The Leshan specimens are among the finest quartz clusters around. Quartz comes from too many locations in China to even attempt listing here.  It takes many forms and has numerous types of including minerals depending on the locale.  Some look like Herkimer diamonds and some even look very close to the Herkimer diamond scepters from Little Falls, New York.  In fact, these two locations are the only ones known to produce black stemmed scepters anywhere in the world.  The Chinese scepters are included with graphite while the New York State scepters are included by anthraxolite.  Whatever the form or location, we are discovering some of the finest quartz specimens ever are coming from China.

OKF-677

OKF-677    Quartz    Leshan, Sichuan Prov., China.  A lustrous cluster of Herk style crystals to 5.1 cm each which are transparent.  They have moderate inclusions and a very slight smoky tint.  The group is a floater which views fine from any side and sits well in numerous positions.  Really a killer quartz specimen for a minimal cost.  There are a couple tiny nicks to terminations visible with magnification that are not distracting when the specimen is viewed on display or when handled.  50$

OKF-678

This is closer to the proper color.

OKF-678    Scepter Quartz    Leshan, Sichuan Prov., China.  This 7.2 cm specimen is what would be referred to as a dumbbell scepter.  There is a small branch on one side.  Scepter form is not highly pronounced but it is there.  There is a ding on one tip (small but visible) and the other has a micro ding which is evident with 10x magnification.  Still a good displayable example of material that we are seeing less and less of through the past several years.  40$

OKI-089

OKI-089    Scepter Quartz    RESERVED    Leshan, Sichuan Prov., China.  A nice double terminated 5.4 cm scepter included by graphite.  These black stemmed scepters are getting rare.  I have not seen but a few for sale over the past few years and they are now always quite expensive.  I bought this one before the prices went crazy so this is a steal.  There is a good sized enhydro (at least a half cm) which is triangular shaped and has a movable chunk of graphite in it.  Very small rub on tip that is not distracting and almost too small to mention (far less than a millimeter).  I’ll never be able to get these again for this price.  75$

OKI-090

OKI-090    Quartz (Amethyst), Hubeite and Apophyllite   Daye Mines, Huangshi, Hubei Prov., China.  7.2 cm long, damage free, killer.  The amethyst is light as all of these which were found back in 2000? Were.  Great surface growth features.  Hot glue on base is allowing it to stand upright.  This is one of the nicest of these which I have owned.  225$

OKI-084

OKI-084    Quartz (Amethyst), Hubeite and Apophyllite    Daye Mines, Huangshi, Hubei Prov., China.  This fine specimen was in my personal collection for many years and now needs a home due to my change in what I collect.  The amethyst is a very light purple and the crystals even look smoky due to the brown hubeite on there reverse sides.  Perfection with only a tiny, couple of millimeters, ding on the backside of one quartz.  Sits beautifully and measures in at 5.5 x 5.2 x 4.3 cm.  Back view is great too...I just forgot to photograph it.  230$

OKE-254

OKE-254    Quartz with Graphite Inclusions    Jinkouke, Ebian County, Sichuan Prov., China.   I think this is the most aesthetic quartz specimen from China which I have ever owned.  Although there was once a good deal of this material available on the mineral market specimens of this quality have never been common.  This piece is very much like a snow flake in form.  The quartz points, to 9 cm each, are mostly single terminated points radiating from a central spot.  The cluster measures 9.8 x 8 x 6 cm.  There are two small chips off crystals which are not obvious otherwise damage free.  An exceptional display piece.  250$

Skeletal tip on quartz

Fluorite

OKE-205

Back

OKE-205    Skeletal Quartz and Fluorite Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China.   This is a rather interesting specimen which in composed of large, clear quartz crystals which have some faces that are skeletal in form and filled by a secondare, white, opaque mineral.  One crystal is only the tip of a larger point which is entirely regrown and filled by the same white mineral.  I’ve seen lots of unusual minerals from this mine over the years but do not remember anything quite like this.  The big point was attached to more quartz but is now the only contact surface on an otherwise complete and damage free piece.  There are tiny fluorites of a light bluse color attached in numerous places on the quartz (to .7 cm each on edge).  A very interesting and unusual specimen.  100$
