Chinese Mimetite Specimens
Mimetite is an uncommon mineral and always attracts attention when found in good crystals. The material from China created great excitement in 2005 and a feeding frenzy began. Prices were unprecedented and have not gone down since. The only thing that has gone down is the supply. The locale is now exhausted according to reliable sources and the pieces are getting difficult to find. Smaller ones with decent crystals are available but the thickly coated specimens with cm plus crystals are uncommon and very costly. The colors are diverse ranging from brown to bright yellow to orange. Crystals can be elongated or tabular. In almost all cases they are very aesthetic mineral specimens and highly desired by collectors.

OKF-180 Mimetite Pingtouling, Liannan, Guangdong Prov. China. This beautiful specimen measures 5.3 x 3.5 x 2.3 cm has a front face coated by beautifully formed doubly terminated mimetites to 1.2 cm each. The crystals are beautifully formed, damage free and of the high luster expected from this locale. They are on a dark matrix so they blend in somewhat, but they are still very displayable and showy. The specimen sits on edge and displays great. A fine piece. $350

OKE-255 Mimetite Pingtouling, Liannan, Guangdong Prov., China. The top surface of this piece is fully crystallized with mimetite crystals to .7 cm in length. Most of these are scepters with bright yellow stems and orange yellow caps. They are of the highest luster and not damaged. There is also mineralization on other sides of the piece but I would consider this top surface more displayable than the others. Entire piece is 5.8 x 2.7 x 2.4 cm. An attractive specimen with lots of interesting crystals. 95$

This specimen measures 5.2 x 4.3 x 3.5 overall and has bright yellow/ orange, translucent crystals to .7 cm each. Nice example 40$

These represent good specimens with nicely formed crystal, not the top shelf pieces costing many thousands of dollars. This specimen is 4.5 x 3.5 cm with nice coverage on one side of the piece. I don't see any damage. Crystals are gemmy to highly translucent, up to .8 cm and beautifully formed. Excellent example of this tough to find material. 160$
