Chinese Hubeite specimens

This material was first identified last year from the Daye Mines, Huangshi, Hubei, China and was on the market in limited amounts and small pieces. There is now more and in better specimens but it still is coming out as a trickle. The crystals are tiny and brown and they form tight balls on matrices of quartz, apophyllite and calcite.

OKI-087 Quartz on Hubeite on Inesite/ Pyrite on Quartz Daye Mines, Huangshi, Hubei Prov., China. This specimen is so interesting with its combination of both common and rare minerals. Showy enough to be published in any article showing the best of Chinese minerals. The crystal quartz measures 6.1 cm x 4 x 3.5 and stands on end nicelt. Zero damage. The inesite reach over a cm and the hubeite is exceptionally thick on the one side of the specimen. A fine layer of druze quartz ads sparkle! I think I’ll let the photos describe the rest… 250$

OKF-414 Quartz, Calcite, Hubeite and Apophyllite Daye Mines, Hhuangshi, Hubei Prov., China. This fine specimen is the 14th piece I added to my private collection back in the mid-1990s when I collected Chinese minerals exclusively. It was even before the identification of the species Hubeite!! The specimen is 9.5 x 8 x 6.5 cm overall and is comprised of a wonderful mix of species. The quartz is milky to clear and along with the calcite rhombs (to 1.7 cm on edge) make up the body of the specimen. Sprinkled on these minerals are gem clear apophyllite tabs to 1.2 cm and brown hubeite balls to .9 cm each. There is a frosted effect to the front of the specimen yet the back of the piece is missing this effect. This piece is better that almost all I have seen. Perfectly sized and very aesthetic. Everything is terminated, damage free and interesting to look at. Minor basal contact and viewable from all sides. The specimen even sits well for display. This piece has it all! I do not believe you will find a more displayable specimen of this mix of minerals for sale anywhere. 350$

OKA-775 Hubeite on Apophyllite/ Calcite/ Pyrite/ Quartz Hubei Prov., China. This
is probably also from the Fengjiashan Mine near Daye, however, the Chinese are
being secretive about the exact location. This is a newly discovered and named
mineral (named after the Hubei Province where it was discovered). Beautifully
formed, clear, tabular apophyllites to 3.5 cm have light brown to very dark
walnut brown rosettes of this new mineral, hubeite. Larger specimens are usually
on a large calcite rhomb to 4 cm each. The quartz and pyrite are uncommon on
these specimens. The hubeite clusters are seldom more than .5 cm wide but easy
to see and examine. They look like hematite roses but brown. I have seen very
little of this material around and the dealers tell me there wonąt be much
available. This was very expensive stuff so I will be selling it at cost to my
customers only (no dealers please). I will not describe each piece because they
are all very similar. The price breakdown is as follows:
OKA-775A Clusters and single apophyllites to 4 cm each. 20$
OKA-775B Clusters to 4 cm with better hubeites. 25$
OKA-775C 4 to 5 cm clusters with more aesthetic form. 40$
OKA-775D Largest and best clusters to 6 cm each. Best form and best hubeites.
50$
OKA-862B Hubeite/ Apophyllite/ Quartz / Calcite Daye Mines, Huangshi, Hubei, China. This material was first identified last year and was on the market in limited amounts and small pieces. There is now more and in better specimens. This one is a large (8 x 9 x 6 cm) specimen with a nice mix of tabular clear apophyllites (to 1 cm) and brown hubeite balls (to .7 cm). A light druze (quartz?) coats much of the piece giving it a frosted appearance. The matrix is large calcite rhombs to one cm each and quartz crystals to over 6 cm. Some matrix contacts but they are not apparent when correctly displayed. The big quartz crystals radiate outward in numerous directions on this free standing piece. It views well from all sides. Impressive specimen. 125$
