Chinese Ferberite (Wolframite) Specimens

Ferberite crystals from China rival those from Peru. They are often very high in luster, rise aesthetically off their matrices and are commonly found in association with other minerals. Commonly referred to by the outdated name "wolframite" the specimens (at least those from the Yaogangxian Mine) have been tested as ferberite.

OKE-174 Ferberite coated by Arsenopyrite, Quartz, Pyrite and Mica Yaogangxian Mine, Bai Shi Du, Chen Xhou, Yizhang County, Hunan Prov., China. This piece has a core of parallel growth (slightly diverging), high luster, double terminated ferberites to 5.2 cm. These are heavily coated by an array of fine minerals. The arsenopyrites dominate along with beautiful clear, tabular, double terminated quartz crystals. There are a couple cubic pyrites and some mica to complete the assemblage. What a killer. Minor contact at base where it is mounted and a couple of tiny dings to the arsenos and one pyrite (that’s on the back). A top miniature which should be mounted at a more appealing angle. 5.2 x 3.8 x 3.3 cm. Outstanding example. 430$
