Chinese Amethyst Specimens

The fine amethyst (almost pink in color) from the Fengjiashan Mine, Daye, Hubei Prov., China was a blip on the mineralogical radar between 2000 and 2002. Now these specimens are difficult to find, and to date, more have not been mined. The associated minerals are usually calcite, tabular apophyllites, hubeite and sometimes inestite. The surfaced of the amethyst shows a mild step growth effect which is both interesting and aesthetic. Lots of great specimens still coming from this locale....but what happened to the amethyst??
These are definitely some of the most aesthetic quartz specimens I have seen. Light purple (almost a light pink), great form and generator (symmetrical) terminations, most single crystals. Coating one side only you will find tabular, double terminated, clear/ slightly milky apophyllites. Apophyllites are .5 to 1.5 cm each. Usually coating one side of each apophyllite is the newly named mineral hubeite. The hubeite appears as a tan colored druze on these specimens. This is a very rare and unusual combination. All the minerals show well because the mineral coating it does so only on one side. Usually no damage on any of these. The big ones are few and far more expensive. Top shelf material in all regards.

OKI-084 Quartz (Amethyst), Hubeite and Apophyllite Daye Mines, Huangshi, Hubei Prov., China. This fine specimen was in my personal collection for many years and now needs a home due to my change in what I collect. The amethyst is a very light purple and the crystals even look smoky due to the brown hubeite on there reverse sides. Perfection with only a tiny, couple of millimeters, ding on the backside of one quartz. Sits beautifully and measures in at 5.5 x 5.2 x 4.3 cm. Back view is great too...I just forgot to photograph it. 230$

OKE-289 Apophyllite and Hubeite on Amethyst Daye, Fengjiashan, Hubei Prov., China. Great material from back in 2002 which has not reappeared in specimens of this quality. I had a few put away and now they need homes. The color of the amethyst is a pleasing pinkish purple and the apophyllites are clear to white and sprinkled with fine light brown hubeites. This specimen is a pair of crystals with the largest measuring 4.5 cm and has some minimal apophyllite damage at the base of specimen on backside associated with crystal removal. I feel safe calling it damage free. A great value on an old specimen which is exceedingly difficult to find today. 160$
