I believe Chinese fluorites to be one of the most under appreciated of mineral specimens on today's market.  For about a decade they have been readily available at dirt cheap prices.  That is quickly changing as collectors learn to appreciate their multitudes of colors, forms and associations.  These are specimens to be moved on quickly (remember what happened to Tri-state fluorites!) while many are still available.

OKL-963

OKL-963     Fluorite     Xiefang Mine, Ruijin County, Ganzhou Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China.  This is very uncommon material that I was lucky enough to find in a couple examples this year.  It is most noted for having the two generations of fluorite with cubes following octahedrons.  The cubes are modified by dodecahedrons and the octahedrons faces are modified by cubes.  Wild!  The specimen is a slightly deeper green than the photos and the cubes are clear and have purple phantoms.  The color is much deeper than the other two previously posted specimens.   4.2 x 3 x 2.6 cm.  Zero damage.  Floater!  This is very similar to the last specimens (likely the same pocket) and it is difficult to show all that is going on here. If you like small, attractive, unusual specimens this might be the one for you.  Again, better in hand.   Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base.   $350

tetrahexahedral?

OKL-952     Fluorite, Calcite, Quartz, Pyrite    Xianghuapu Mine, Xianghauling, Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.  This is new material from the locality that is quite different from previous fluorites and likely amongst the finest and most interesting fluorite to come out of China in quite some time.  An 11 x 8.2 x 4 cm piece with cubic fluorite crystals to 2.2 cm on edge. The edges of the crystals have very strange modifications that I have not seen before that appear as small bevels to the cube intersections.  They can be clearly seen in the images but are rather difficult to describe.  The color is a light green with light blue phantoms in some of the larger cubes.  Also light sprinkles of pyrite as coatings and inclusions.  The calcites are white with "Mercedes Benz" cross shaped pyrite coatings on their surfaces.  Nice luster, no damage... a very fine example of this unusual material.  Some sawing on backside was used to recover or trim the piece.  Very aesthetic and very unusual.  Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base.  $750

ENHYDROS

Calcite on backside of specimen.

OKL-953      Fluorite, Calcite, Quartz, Pyrite      Xianghuapu Mine, Xianghauling, Linwu County, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.  This is new material from the locality that is quite different from previous fluorites and likely amongst the finest and most interesting fluorite to come out of China in quite some time.  Green octahedrons overgrown with green cubes having some really interesting features... such as tetrahexahedral modifications and ENHYDROS in most crystals.  Many are clearly visible to the eye.  Most crystals have four water inclusions with a nice bubble!  Nice luster, form, and even some interesting calcite on the back.  Blue phantoms!  8.9 x 7 x 4.3 cm.  This is way under priced for all that is here.  No damage and displays great on the custom base.  (mistake on the first pic, yes it is $600)     $600

OKL-956

OKL-956     Fluorite and Quartz     Xiefang Mine, Ruijin County, Ganzhou Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China.  This is very uncommon material that I was lucky enough to find in a couple examples this year.  It is most noted for having the two generations of fluorite with cubes following octahedrons.  The cubes are modified by dodecahedrons and the octahedrons faces are modified by cubes.  Wild!  The specimen is a slightly deeper green than the photos and the cubes are clear and have purple phantoms at the octahedron's tips and some even have quartz inclusions.  The color is better represented in the photos (yet still a little dull) but the high luster is not.

OKL-950

OKL-950     Fluorite on Quartz     De'an Fluorite Mine, Wushan, Jiujiang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China.  Maybe these crystals get bigger but I've never seen one even close to the size of this monster.  The large crystal measures 11 cm across (8 cm on edge)!  That is simply huge for these specimens.  The piece measures 17.6 x 10 x 8 cm.  The backside has a coating of wax as all these specimens are etched from the quartz to expose the fluorites.  These translucent, grape purple crystals are perfectly exposed and damage free.  Displays great.  An important piece.  Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base.  $2,500

Dolomite crystals on phantoms

OKK-827     Fluorite with Dolomite inclusions     Xianghuapu Mine, Hunan Province, China.  Beautifully formed, transparent light bluish/ purplish green fluorite crystals on a fluorite matrix.  Crystals are gemmy and glassy to frosted depending on the faces.  11 x 10.5 x 4.5 cm with crystals to 2.4 cm across.  They are cubes with no modifications.  No damage.  The really nice feature this specimen has is that some of the cubes have nice purple phantoms that were coated by sharp white dolomite rhombs and eventually these prior crystals were coated by the final green fluorite.  The phantons are well defined and very interesting.  Nice.   $190

OKL-527

OKL-527     Fluorite    Dong Po, Hunan Prov., China.  An attractive crystal of light green fluorite high on a crystallized matrix of quartz.  It measures 3 x 2.5 x 1.7 cm overall and the fluorite is 1.3 cm in diameter.  It is frosted on some faces and of high luster on others which show off its gemmy interior.  Cuboctaheral form with what also looks to be dodecahedral modifications.  Very nice!!  No damage and mounted in a perky box.  $45

OKL-528

OKL-528     Fluorite    Dong Po, Hunan Prov., China.  An attractive crystal of light green fluorite high on a crystallized matrix of quartz.  It measures 3.2 x 2.6 x 2 cm overall.  It is frosted on some faces and of high luster on others which show off its gemmy interior.  Cuboctaheral form.  No damage but ther is strong backside contact.  Mounted in a perky box.  $30

OKL-606

OKL-597

Calcite

OKL-597    Calcite on Fluorite    Xianhualing, Hunan Prov., China.  This piece is dominated by two octaheda of transparent, green fluorite to 4.3 cm on edge.  On their surfaces are a few disc shaped rhombs of gray calcite for contrast.  The fluorite surfaces are etched looking however they are small modifications by cubes.  This has become contemporary material that will likely become classic.  The piece is a floater with healed contacts and in its base what appears to be a case that is also crystallized where the thin crystal (maybe anhydrite) was.  6 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm and no damage.  Harder and harder to find these now.  A great price on this one.  $40

OKL-588

OKL-588    Scepter Quartz and Fluorite     Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhan League, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. An attractive miniature measuring 5.5 x 3.5 x 3.2 cm with well formed cuboctahedrons of transparent fluorite.  The largest crystal measures 3.4 cm in diameter and sits well in the center of the specimen.  Some faces are glassy and some show surface modifications but the transparency is very obvious.  The matrix is clearly seen through the crystals as are the small scepter quartz inclusions (very neat!). One small quartz scepter all on what appears to be dolomite.  Floater with only one old, healed contact.  A pretty amazing find for this quality and price.  $145

Base

OKK-780     Fluorite and Garnet     Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhan League, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.  This cabinet sized specimen measures 8.5 x 6 x 5 cm.  It is composed of dark greenish black euhedral garnets with clear octahedral fluorites in parallel growth.  The garnets are well formed, opaque, and have a satin luster while the fluorites are gemmy, complex in form and have faces that vary in their luster.  The quality of the piece is outstanding with edge contacts being only slightly evident and primary crystals being damage free.  The specimen is crystallized nicely on almost all surfaces and showy due to the contrast of colors and textures.  These are fairly common species for the find but a very uncommon association for Inner Mongolia.  A very fine specimen.  $750

OKK-781

OKK-781     Fluorite     Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Ulanhan League, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.  This is an exceeding well balanced and aesthetic fluorite for this occurrence, or for that matter, anywhere.  It measures 8 x 6.5 x 4.1 cm and shows the largest crystal 4 cm in diameter) in a central position surrounded by smaller crystals.  The crystals are large cuboctahedral forms with some faces being smooth while others are stepped.  The smooth faces give view of the crystal’s gemmy, water clear interiors all the way to the matrix on which they rest.  A very attractive, desirable, and damage free specimen.  I think this one will be very popular.  $490

OKK-782

This image shows the proper color and lighting.

OKK-782     Fluorite     Huanggangliang Mine,  It measures 8.3 x 7 x 4.3 cm and shows numerous large crystal intergrown on matrix.  The crystals are large cuboctahedral forms with some faces being smooth while others are stepped.  The smooth faces give view of the crystal’s gemmy, water clear interiors all the way to the matrix on which they rest.  A very attractive, desirable, and damage free specimen.  Good specimens of fluorite like this from China are becoming very cost prohibitive.  This one is a superior example at a reasonable price.   $450
