Pyrite and Quartz close up

Complex fluorites...

OKE-223    Fluorite, Pyrite and Quartz    Sui Ko Sau Mine, Hunan Prov., China.  Great specimen for those looking to find the unusual.  These fluorites are cubes modified by dodecahedrons.  They are water clear and the unusual part…they are nucleated on barite balls.  So, inside each fluorite is a ball of white opaque barite.  Backside of plate is also mineralized.  Big fluorite has a couple very ting pin marks on surface.  9.5 x 6 x 3 cm.  Very nice and interesting.  60$

OKE-254

OKE-254    Quartz with Graphite Inclusions    Jinkouke, Ebian County, Sichuan Prov., China.   I think this is the most aesthetic quartz specimen from China which I have ever owned.  Although there was once a good deal of this material available on the mineral market specimens of this quality have never been common.  This piece is very much like a snow flake in form.  The quartz points, to 9 cm each, are mostly single terminated points radiating from a central spot.  The cluster measures 9.8 x 8 x 6 cm.  There are two small chips off crystals which are not obvious otherwise damage free.  An exceptional display piece.  250$

OKE-259

OKE-259    Quartz with Graphite Inclusions    Jinkouke, Ebian County, Sichuan Prov., China.   I think this is one of the most aesthetic quartz specimen from China which I have ever owned.  Although there was once a good deal of this material available on the mineral market specimens of this quality have never been common. The quartz points, to 12 cm each, are mostly single terminated points radiating from a central spot.  The largest crystal is a fine double terminated crystal.  The cluster measures 12 x 8.8 x 7 cm.  One regrown surface where there was once a crystal.  You will have to search hard to find it and it in no way distracts from the aesthetics of the specimen.  An exceptional display piece.  160$

OKE-255

OKE-255    Mimetite     Pingtouling, Liannan, Guangdong Prov., China.   The top surface of this piece is fully crystallized with mimetite crystals to .7 cm in length.  Most of these are scepters with bright yellow stems and orange yellow caps.  They are of the highest luster and not damaged.  There is also mineralization on other sides of the piece but I would consider this top surface more displayable than the others.  Entire piece is 5.8 x 2.7 x 2.4 cm.  An attractive specimen with lots of interesting crystals.  95$

OKE-249

OKE- 249    Fluorite and Quartz (minor pyrite and calcite overgrowths and inclusions)   Shangbao Pyrite Mine, Leiyang City, Hunan Prov., China.   Here is a very old (mid-1990s) piece that is seldom seen any more.  Nice blue cubes with complex surfaces and some white fluorite, second generation, overgrowths.  Also minor pyrite and calcite overgrowths which add interest to this unusual specimen.  Big white quartz points have purple cores.  Some of the fluorites have white faces from fluorite coatings.  12.5 x 9.5 x 6 cm with fluorites to 2.3 cm on edge.  Zero damage on this complex and interesting piece.  450$

OKE-253

Back

OKE-253    Barite     Xikuangshan Stibnite Mine, Lengshuijiang City, Central Hunan Prov., China.   Once common these big thick barites are now uncommon in good specimens.  This one is exceptional for a cabinet sized piece.  These crystals are transparent to translucent and have nice phantoms.  Only damage is a chip to one crystal’s side.  9 x 5 x 6.2 cm.  Looks perfect from its frontal view and very good from all others, as well.  Displays great with no assistance.  A very fine old specimen.  230$

OKE-251

OKE-251    Quartz on Fluorite    Xianghauling Cassiterite Mine, Linwu County, Chenzhou District, Hunan Prov., China.  This is an old and very unusual specimen which may just be a one-on-a-kind.  The cluster measures 8.8 x 5 x 5.5 cm and is composed of light white, transparent (gemmy), octahedrons of fluorite up to 2,2 cm on edge.  This very rare color and form is partially coated by “pop corn” quartz.  There is great crystal separation and the crystals also stand out in relief quite nicely.  I have never seen another specimen from this mine (or any others) quite like this.  This specimen is damage free and displays nicely from several views.  A very unique piece which should find a home quickly with a collector who looks for the unusual and attractive.   Only 325$

OKE-270

OKE-270    Azurite Ball    Chengmenshan, Jiangxi Prov., China.  I will begin by saying that these are among some of the finest azurite specimens I have ever seen from any location.  They are highly aesthetic and composed of large crystals.  I found a total of nine of these beauties at this year’s Tucson show and grabbed them all up.  There were a couple others which had noticeable damage which I passed on.  They are likely from an old find which did produce a few nice balls like this.  They were certainly few and far between then.  Now they are nearly impossible to find.  This ball is well formed measuring 8 x 6.9 x 5.8 cm and is the top deep blue color that one expects in a top azurite (and which is nearly impossible to photograph well).  The crystals are blocky and radiate out in fan like patterns with single crystals averaging about .5 to a cm on single edges.  Minor touch marks to a few crystals but not at all distracting to the appearance of this fine piece.  A free floater which is displayable from any angle and quite amazing.  A exceptional, aesthetic and rare specimen at this level of quality.  1,100$

OKE-289    Apophyllite and Hubeite on Amethyst    Daye, Fengjiashan, Hubei Prov., China.   Great material from back in 2002 which has not reappeared in specimens of this quality.  I had a few put away and now they need homes.  The color of the amethyst is a pleasing pinkish purple and the apophyllites are clear to white and sprinkled with fine light brown hubeites.  This specimen is a pair of crystals with the largest measuring 4.5 cm and has some minimal apophyllite damage at the base of specimen on backside associated with crystal removal.  I feel safe calling it damage free.  A great value on an old specimen which is exceedingly difficult to find today.  160$
